October 30, 1981 My dearest Lily,

I find myself pacing my room at night, forced awake by the ceaseless way my body aches for yours. Though Luna has been crying through the night lately, and I've been forced to rock her into the wee hours. How do you survive it with Harry? You've told me he's quite rambunctious—does he burn himself out in the day and sleep at night? My brother is terrible with children, I'm afraid, and Xenophilius is too wrapped up in his machinations to remember he has a baby half of the time. I do rely on your advice, dear.

lily died. for 107 days lily was dead and decomposing. for 107 days pandora was driving herself mad researching and practicing and learning ancient fae magicks she shouldn't be able to read, let alone wield. 107 days after lily died pandora broke apart the universe, collected the shards, and used them to bring her lover back.

no you don't understand. lily was dead and she had died married to james but pandora still brought her back and loved her the same. pandora still went weeks without sleep while pregnant for her

i've been waiting for this. basically it's a canon compliant au so lily and james get married, have harry, and they die. but around valentines day of 1981, lily's 20 and she's a mother and she's desperate so she sends pandora (her ex girlfriend...they broke up when lily joined the order in 7th year bc pandora was neutral and she wasn't changing that) a letter. they continue to exchange letters (in my head i call them the reverie letters...reminiscing on what was and could have been, a distraction from how bad the world is for both of them)

and lily has harry and pandora falls in love with him through lily's letters. and she falls in love with lily too. and then the doors shut on lily and james in august and pandora is alone again in fuckass scotland with her thoughts and her baby and her husband who she loves but not really. and then lily manages to send her a letter, asking her for instructions for a blood magic ritual. she won't tell pandora what its for but pandora sends her the ritual anyway because she keeps closing her eyes and seeing flashes of green, a crying baby boy and hearing the slump of bodies as they hit the ground. and then halloween 81 happens and pandora is prepared. she knew this would happen and she immediately begins her research. she toils and stays in her shed for three and a half months and she succeeds in bringing lily back on february 15, 1982.

i picked that day bc its lupercalia which is the festival of fertility and health (and bc it marks the 1 year anniversary of the reverie letters) and basically they go and get harry (who pandora used in her workings so he knows her) and they take luna and harry and raise them as sisters. but lily came back angry and lovely and her eyes are so much darker than before. and she misses james. they're trying to figure out their life together and they bake pineapple upside down cake a lot.

guys i swear necromancy is beautiful and loving and an act of pure devotion. sure its "an act against god" but if god could see how they loved each other she would let it slide this time. because if she can kill people out of love then surely pandora can bring one girl back.
