oh can I please have a twofer with 'kissing in the rain' and 'the perfect proposal' with bagginshield for the bingo card?
I'd adore to write two together lol (and kissing in the rain really, really just.... ooh that one gets me)
Thorin was horrendously late. He was late and he was soaked to the bone. It wasn't often that he went on foot, but the floral shop was not too far from his apartment and he didn't feel that it warranted driving there when he could very quickly walk there and back. That was supposed to be a non-issue.
Though perhaps if he had been smart enough to check the weather before hand, he wouldn't have been caught in a sudden downpour. It wasn't sudden, really, but it was unexpected to him and that meant that when he left the floral shop, he was unprepared for the rain. He tugged his coat up, but that only went so far.
And he'd tried to wait for a pause in the rain, hiding beneath a tree, but that hadn't worked. The rain had just continued. He'd given up and trudged back through the rain, grimacing. Now he was late and wet and he did not have time to get back to his car. He was going to have to meet up with Bilbo by walking there, which wasn't ideal, but it would have to do. Otherwise he'd be abysmally late. That he couldn't afford.
"Thorin!" Bilbo's voice came through the rain.
Thorin skidded to a stop, trying to see through the rain. The figure of Bilbo came in to view, splashing through the rain as he hurried down the sidewalk. Beautiful, wonderful Bilbo, who had an umbrella shielding him from most of the rain. Thorin took a few more steps, meeting Bilbo as the man skid to a stop.
Bilbo's eyes took him in, something akin to pity but warmth and love blooming in his expression. Then his eyes glanced upon the soaked flowers in Thorin's grip.
"Oh..." Bilbo huffed a soft laugh, looking back at Thorin with a soft expression. "You are an idiot."
"I didn't want to be late," Thorin said, using his free hand to push the hair sticking to his forehead away.
"I was worried," Bilbo said, stepping closer to Thorin and lifting the umbrella so they were both under it. It didn't matter that much to Thorin at this point but at least he wasn't being continuously rained on anymore. "You were late and I tried texting you..."
"I'm fine, I just... wasn't expecting the rain," Thorin apologized, smiling softly down at Bilbo.
Maybe it wasn't the right time, but Thorin realized that there was not a better time than now. He had been planning on a much cozier and intimate scene, but this moment they were in now felt just as right as any other moment might. He didn't need the perfect setting. He just needed Bilbo.
"Here," Thorin pushed the flowers gently into Bilbo's free hand. Bilbo took it, frowning at Thorin but his expression morphed into bemusement as the man knelt on the ground.
It was definitely not the best idea but he was already soaked with rain water anyway. Thorin looked up at Bilbo, blinked away rain water as he pulled the small velvet box from his coat pocket. Bilbo made a noise, his eyes widening and his mouth falling open.
"I had... much better plans for this but I think that now is as good as ever, Bilbo," he took a deep breath before speaking again, "Bilbo Baggins, I believe that my life has consistently pushed my path unto yours. We seem to be fated to meet again and again, and even if we were not, I know my heart. It belongs to you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, however long that might be, if you will have me."
"Oh," Bilbo gasped, his eyes tearing up. Thorin felt his confidence drop for a moment. But then, Bilbo was dropping the flowers and his umbrella, leaning down to cup Thorin's cheeks with both of his hands. "Yes! Yes, you oaf, now get off the ground, you're going to get sick!"
Thorin couldn't help himself. He stood up, pulling Bilbo against his chest as he went and tilted his head down, kissing him desperately. Bilbo's arms wound around his neck, clinging to him as they kissed. In a moment, the rain would get to be too much, but for this moment, it did not bother either of them. It was simply perfect.
