The Celts also wore dreadlocks and were described as having 'hair like snakes'. Germanic tribes, the Vikings, the Greeks, the Pacific Islanders, the Naga people and several ascetic groups within various major religions have at times worn their hair in locks, including the monks of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the Nazirites of Judaism and the Sadhus of Hinduism.
gurl just stop i love u but u do not know what ur talking about. White people and black people have different textured hair for the most part. Therefore their hair can do different things. Europeans had nasty matted hair that resembled dread locks because it was so dirty and tangled and ya non black people go ahead and mat your hair nobody cares about that. Locs are particular to black people and in specific people of the rastafari religion in jamaica (and no white people cant be rastafari). Many poc cultures have had dreads that is true but LOCS are a black thing and its disrespectful for non black people to say they have locs cuz ha ha they don’t. Knowing the difference between locs (black and rastafari cultural property), dreads (found in poc cultures) and matted hair is important. Everyone’s hair can be matted if you try there is no cultural significance to matted hair but trying to pass off matted hair as locs is very disrespectful. People who don’t have afro textured hair just cannot make their hair do loc styles as much as they try they just can’t because of their hair texture and trying to pass off matted hair as locs is not only sad but offensive.
These images show the difference between locs, dreads and matted hair. You just know a white person with their non afro textured hair could never do a style like Senegalese twists because of their hair texture.
Please correct me if I made any incorrect statements in this post about what dreads/locs are as my cultural background does not include them.
