“Bartz!” The monkey-like human picked himself off the ground, running towards his heroic-looking friend at full speed. He was full of excitement.
“Bartz! You won’t believe this! After many times of searching,” Zidane wasn’t sure how long it has been since the trio, him, Squall and Bartz, were last together, but it flt about quite a good number of years. He continued what he was just about to tell Bartz. “I found Leon-- I mean Squall!”

Zidane is seen flinging Bartz’ sword about in the distance, shouting one liners and apparently having good fun. Granted, he wasn’t as skilled with a full sized weapon, but he was making due.
“En garde!” he nagged at no one in particular, swiping at the air before doing a pointless back flip.
This is apparently how the thief amused himself.

— ☩ All it took was one stone, hidden from eyesight, to trip him. He had remained still even after the frontal impact, with only his fingers twitching as a poor, unmatched reaction. On one hand was a satchel with strings along the rim; they were loose, and there were a few shoots of green poking out of the mouth. They did not work, obviously... The chocobos did not show signs of want, nor of curiosity. The slow rise and fall of his back signaled a quiet sigh, which was accompanied with a few strained coughs. Whether they were out of irritation or tiredness, it was difficult to determine.

Beat to Win
Being suspended on a crystal floating in the air could be seen as magical, illustrious, and even benevolent depending on the circumstance. This wasn't one of those circumstances for Zidane. Azure eyes glared fearlessly upon his advesary. Fingers tightened around the hilts of his short swords. A searing hint of competition lingered from the attitude that escaped his lips: something about not losing to a chocobo-lover. Zidane couldn't remember the words even if he tried. They were full of jest, anyway.
Zidane was too caught up in the moment. Too naive to realize that his faux statements would be his undoing. Although he may have managed to break from the chains that came from god knows where, he still lost what would determine the victor of their charade. A thief being stolen from, he mused, was a joke. He lips coined a coy smile at the thought as his head shook the whistful irony from his mind.
The goal of the matter was simple; whoever brought both crystals to Cosmos won. If your crystal was stolen, you were prohibited from summoning it at will. That would enable instant disqualification. If they made it to Cosmos and both still had their respective crystal, it'd be deemed a draw. The entire thing was stupid and irrational. The crystals weren't toys and Zidane knew that entirely too well, but somehow Bartz managed to talk him into this redundant competition. He managed to pluck at every one of Zidane's strings and turn him into nothing short of an adrenaline junkie for a time.
An adrenaline junkie who had a knack for using verbal slurs to debilitate his opponent.
