idk why but a very small headcanon i have is cas is afraid of baths and swimming after the leviathans took over his body and walked into the river just idk
Oooooh I like this.
So he always takes showers and it’s not normally a problem, right? Then of course the boys all happen to get stuck in a motel room on a case that has a broken shower head and only a bath tub, so in order to clean himself but avoid a terrifying situation (like a panic attack while submerged in water or while standing on a slippery floor or something like that) he has to come up with an alternative plan.
This is how Dean accidentally walks in on Cas attempting to wash his hair under the running water in the tub. Not that he questions it. He just laughs it off and files it under his already enormous list of “human shit to explain to Cas.” This is also how Sam walks in on Cas (having left the door open) attempting to wash his legs and feet by filling the tub no more than a couple of inches deep and just sloshing the water in whichever direction he thinks it needs to go. Sam asks Castiel if he needs any help, but all he gets in response is an exhausted sigh.
Yes, Cas tries to state, of course he’s fine.
No, Sam replies, that is not how cleaning oneself has ever worked, and though he won’t press at the subject immediately, he’s going to want to know what’s up sometime in the near future.
Cas caves and explains it to Sam when he gets out of the bathroom. He gives Sam permission to tell Dean. Sam takes him up on this. Dean apologizes to Cas for belittling his actions earlier. Cas waves him off, actually thankful that Dean had initially reacted that way.
Neither of the brothers questions Castiel’s bathing habits again.
