every now and again that quote “you don’t really know me until you’ve stayed up till 4am with me”, pops up on my dash and it reminds me of one time i was with @fell-from-hell. we’d spend the evening drowning our sorrows and didn’t go to bed until the early hours of the morning. i remember lying awake watching the clock change from 3:59 to 4:00. a thought occurred to me. “hey ellie” “yeah?” “do you think the banana’s still there?” “i don’t know” “do you think we should check?” “yeah” we checked - it was still there. and there was an unspoken, mutual understanding that it should stay there. i think that was a moment when we got to know who the other person /really/ was.
Went to see the epic Too Many Zooz with @fell-from-hell, @joolshallie and @quilavastudy. Seeing them live has definitely reaffirmed my undying love for Leo P and his beautiful bari Pepper 🎷

Songs with memories
So I was thinking about this the other day and realised that I actually have loads of songs that I associate with certain memories or people. Like, it’s a really nice feeling to be able to listen to one of these songs and travel back in time to a moment that I never want to forget, or be reminded of someone that I love.
Sadeness, Part I - Enigma: Enigma’s one of my all time favourite groups, and when I heard "Sadeness” years ago it took me a long time to figure out where I’d heard it before. Like, not just over the radio or something - I knew this song, I just couldn’t figure out how. Turns out it was one of the first songs my uncle ever played me when I was a baby, and I used to get super excited watching the colourful, swirly visualisations on the computer screen.
Venus, The Planets Suite - Holst: “Venus” reminds me of one of my best friends, who I love to pieces. She’s a dancer and she’s calm, kind, pretty and elegant, and this piece just completely matches her personality.
Warriors - Too Many Zooz: This song, by one of the most epic bands in existence, always makes me think of @joolshallie because this is totally our jam. It’s one of my favourite songs by TMZZ and Jools is one of my favourite people. Recently, I wasn’t in a very good place and she said something to me that I’ll never, ever forget: “If you have a freak out, just take a step back and sing Warriors to yourself in your head - because you are one.”
Caribbean Blue - Enya: Whenever I listen to “Caribbean Blue” I can close my eyes, and suddenly it’s 7am and I’m half asleep in the back of the car. The window’s open and I can smell the salt in the air as we drive over the Oakland Bay Bridge in San Francisco. The sun’s rising, the lights are twinkling, everything’s okay.
Taro - Alt-J: ”Taro” always takes me back to the time I was walking through the graveyard in the small church opposite my house. It was spring and all the flowers were in bloom and I just remember stopping in the middle of the path, watching the daffodils swaying in the breeze, and wondering whether anyone ever thought about the people buried there. Whether anyone came to visit the graves of the people lain to rest hundreds of years ago. Hoping they hadn’t been forgotten.
A Selfish Man - Francis Lung: So this song reminds me of one of my friends, who I don’t think realises how much they mean to me. It was our last ever Spanish lesson and we’d spent the whole year sitting at the back together, flunking the class, and generally having a hilarious time. We were sharing a pair of earphones and sitting on the table looking out the window, with our backs to the rest of the room. This song came on the playlist and we just sat there and danced, for once not regretting the past or worrying about the future.
Toes - Glass Animals: ”Toes” reminds my of one of my best friends, @rinpkc, whom I love very much, and the time we tried to play this song at the same time on our phones with very trippy results. We each had one of the other person’s earphones in, and accidentally pressed play at the right moment for the song to be out of time by just the right amount, so one ear was hearing everything four beats later than the other ear.
Stolen Dance - Milky Chance: So this song reminds me of @fell-from-hell who I’m very glad to have as a friend, and a great party of hers that I was at. We’d made a playlist beforehand, and this song was on it, but some drunk idiot kept messing with the music and it never played. So at one in the morning while we were still totally buzzed and everyone else had left, we put the song on and danced like we didn’t have a care in the world. Thanks for the memories guys <3
