Eurovision 2010s: 235 - 231
Disclaimer: All of these songs are pretty fine overall. Not enough to upgrade them to the next tier however, because they’re still fairly boring.
235. Femminem - “Lako je sve” Croatia 2010
We kick off this FINAL borewhore slaughter before the ~Like It~ zone with a fairly decent return effort! I don’t think “Lako je sve” has the has even near the same panache as “Call me” (which was an excellent piece of hilarious schlager trash <3), but it’s servicable. I like the dancers and the random heart, but the rest skews a bit too much into the “Blonde Woman Screams Into A Windmachine” trope that, as I’ve already established, is one I don’t care all that much about.

234. Gabriela Gunčíková - “I stand” Czech Republic 2016
Wait, there’s still more of the same ilk? Well, yes, but I think Gabi is lowkey iconic for being the ~very first Czech finalist ever~ and receiving 0 points in the televote. 😬 I actually think she’s kind of underrated though, lol. The staging is really pretty. It’s lowkey visually stunning. Love the pink triangles and the hairflip after the bridge is legendary.
The song is superboring though. 🙃

233. PÆNDA - “Limits” Austria 2019
Omg another nilpointing Gabriela <3
I’m kind of sad Pænda flopped though, lol. 😔 I mean, the song is... difficult to get into, and absolutely not suited for Eurovision and it kind of fizzled into nothingness... but I found it a brave and inspired choice. I appreciate that Austria wanted to do something different and stylistic and the end result wasn’t at all bad? But it also wasn’t good enough to thrill me or Europe, so...

232. Natália Kelly - “Shine” Austria 2013
A Presence That Was Liked.

231. Laura Rizotto - “Funny girl” Latvia 2018
[2018 Review here]
Laura is a representative of the fairly awkward lot of good NF winning songs that didn’t survive the transition to Eurovision proper unscathed. I love her and “Funny girl” though. Moody songs about the friendzones <3 Hairflips galore <3 But I think *this very performance* is also easily the least good one. The camera angles were off, Laura came across as defeated, the dress wasn’t as glamorous. It sucks that I have to nitpick here, but Laura came SO close to reaching the final and it’s those tiny inaccuracies that cost her the qualification, and worse, my heart.
