Haven’t said this directly on my blog which is a crime. But i have been thinking about femslash calendiles, and I think we all are missing the immense and insane possibility of dom giles/sub jenny in THESE SPECIFIC circumstances. giles as we often read him (repressed bisexual) has all this internalized homophobia and all of this aggression that in canon manifests as this very high emotions brutality towards ethan — amplified of course by the fact that there’s actual bad blood between them, but the way ethan responds (with hungry eagerness) suggests that this is how giles expressed romantic affection in their twenties.

i think if gethan were lesbians (no world of mine where femslash calendiles leaves ethan a man LOL) this would manifest about the same really, perhaps even MORE intensely, as fem giles has all this weird shit she’s been repressing and ethan (as ever) is a fun and convenient outlet for that. and while i do think there would be genuine love and affection involved in giles’s attraction to jenny, there would also still be that feeling that this relationship, existing outside of the heterosexual norm, would be a safe place for her to express her desire to be in control — a MUCH stronger desire under these circumstances — and i think jenny would respond with eager interest.

i have been wanting to write a multi-chapter g/j sapphic fic since like 2022 but i hit a real weird breaking point today and i was just like you know what fuck it. let's make it a oneshot. maybe a twoshot if i decide to come back. nothing cures whatever is wrong with me like writing about women who have things wrong with them and/or calendiles and this has both of those things.

Visibly steeling herself, Penelope said, “There’s a demon in the internet.”

Jenny blinked. “Okay,” she said. “And?”

“And—and what?” said Penelope, staring incredulously at her.

“Like, is that all the news? Has it gotten worse?” Jenny hopped down from the desk, squinting thoughtfully at Penelope. “I am dying to know how you found out about it, though, because I’m pretty sure you still don’t know how to turn a computer on.”

“The—what?” said Penelope. “How are you not—but you—”

“Nellie—” Off of Penelope’s sour look, Jenny gave her a flat look and said, “I’m certainly not rhyming our names and calling you Penny.”

“That is so far afield from the point I’m attempting to make,” said Penelope exasperatedly. “How on earth are you not surprised by this information?”

“Am I supposed to be?” At Penelope’s wordlessly indignant gestures, Jenny smiled with reluctant amusement and decided to cut her some slack. “I’m a technopagan,” she said. “I work with the occult online. A lot of it is just data collection and prophecy reconstruction, but it’s a rich field of study that’s gaining a lot of traction within the supernatural academic community—”

“Well, I haven’t heard of it,” said Penelope haughtily.

“Wow,” said Jenny, eyebrows shooting up. “So is this another field we share where you’re shockingly behind the times?”

“You know, you really sell yourself short,” said Ms. Calendar, giving Giles a sweet smile and taking three steps forward. “You’re an incredibly intelligent lady, and you’re always talking about yourself like you’re some kind of ditzy imbecile who tripped and fell into a lucrative library sciences career. Didn’t you say that you used to work at the British Museum before this?”

“Modesty is a virtue,” said Giles primly.

“And adaptation is a necessity.” Without waiting for Giles’s response, Ms. Calendar moved towards her, twining their fingers together and tugging Giles towards the library table. “Come on! It’ll be fun, I promise.”

“Stop that,” said Giles through her teeth.

“You need to take a self-confident step forward,” Ms. Calendar continued, entirely ignoring the thunderous look on Giles’s face. Buffy, Willow, and Xander were watching them with rapt attention. “You’re smart, you’re fun, you’re everybody’s favorite school librarian—”

Oh, Giles had never more badly wanted to kill someone.

that calendiles text post meme post you reblogged just made me think of all the useless lesbian potential for teen calendiles. fem giles still isn't even sure jenny likes him, meanwhile she's under the assumption they're dating. disasters.

"Jenny,” said Giles, and coughed. “Um. Jenny. This is--this is hardly the ideal time, I’m aware, and I’m loath to take advantage of our close proximity--”

“Spit it out, Roberta,” said Jenny, cuddling into Giles’s side and pausing the movie. “We have like twenty more minutes before I have to bike back to school for robotics.” She stopped, hand fluttering up to touch Giles’s heart. “Sweetie, are you okay? You’re breathing heavy--”

“Jenny, would you--perhaps not touch me for this?”

Jenny pulled her hand away, eyes wide. “Are we breaking up?”

“Breaking--what?” said Giles weakly.

“You’ve been all jumpy ever since I held your hand in the hallway today,” said Jenny, now looking a little nervous herself. “And I know you’re the kind of girl who likes to take things slow, so, um, should I--have--asked?”

Giles made a few inarticulate stammering noises before realizing that this situation was not going to solve itself. Steeling herself, she said somewhat timidly, “I was mostly--I wanted to--” And that was when what Jenny had said finally resonated with her. Taking things slow? “Are we dating?” she said incredulously.

“Um, yeah?” said Jenny, looking genuinely confused. “You asked me to a movie, I said yes, I kissed you on the cheek when you dropped me off back at my house, we’ve been Netflixing it up for like three weeks now--”

Incredulously, and a little weakly, Giles said, “I was under the impression that you were simply rather tactile with your female friends.”

Jenny looked at Giles. Then she looked at her hand, which was still resting on Giles’s heart. Then she took Giles’s face in her hands and kissed her, a short, soft, pointed kiss. “I am tactile,” she said, “with my idiot girlfriend.”

Giles stared, mouth half-open. “Girlfriend?” she said.

“You noticed that, huh?” said Jenny, and gave Giles a sideways grin.
