Not long after we got together, we started playing D&D; I was curious but had never had the opportunity. Rick tells us a funny story:
Years ago, he was playing a rogue character, and on this particular occasion his character had spent about a week flirting with a serving girl in a tavern. He was giving her trinkets, really turning on the charm. And at the end of the weeks adventuring, he decides he's gonna sleep with this serving girl. His gf at the time was DMing, and she said 'she's not gonna sleep with you', but let him roll diplomacy. He beat his diplomacy check, but that serving girl wasn't gonna sleep with him (he tells it as stubbornness on her part). So he rolls something else, can't quite remember, charisma I think, and beats it. Still no luck. So he says
'Fine then. Roll strength check.'
And the DM says 'what?', slightly disbelieving
"I've been flirting with this woman all week, given her trinkets, and all sorts, I'm gonna fucking sleep with her. I roll strength check.'
At which point the DM leaves because what the fuck is wrong with him?
Now, when he first told me this story I wasn't the loud warrior I am today. I smiled. I laughed nervously. I felt appalled. But he found it hilarious.
Now he still tells this story sometimes, but he'll at least acknowledge how much of a not-ok thing that was to do while laughing about it... and one day, I reckon that he'll either not laugh when he tells this story, or he just won't tell this story at all.
But sometimes when he's an absolute dick, I can't help but think about it.
