I love seeing ur zack in the newest chapter and I love that he’s a paramedic. I am veryvery curious what had ya choosin that for his profession?

omg i wrote a great response to this and then my internet dropped while I was posting it and it disappeared, so let me try to recreate it.

Basically i got the idea for medic zach a while ago when i was thinking about how fun it would be to add him to the tortuga team as their medic because they really need one. it's such an unexpected role for him but paradoxically one that suits his personality really well. Paramedics have to be unsentimental and can't always afford to see the body in front of them as a person. Zach is, uh, uniquely gifted at not seeing people as people and i liked the idea that this makes him a pretty effective medic and biomedical researcher. Like he's interested in machines but also in the human body as a machine, and that's what's interesting about people to him, rather than like, their personalities and forming bonds with them.

I have some more notes on the lore of Medic!Zach in my notes for my Wild Gods AU, which are linked in my intro post. I'll probably start writing that after I finish Dirtbags (or before, depending on how much time I have to kill at work lol), and he plays a much bigger role in that story.

~Okkervil River, Black Sheep Boy #4

First of all i am OBSESSED with Okkervil River's album "Black Sheep Boy & Appendix" and i listen to it a thousand times a week and the meme of writers being like "is this a plot?" to the vibe of a song is extremely true with me and various lyrics on this album, especially in my Wild Gods AU (which does have its own playlist even though I haven't started writing the fic yet). I'm sort of fascinated with the ram as a motif for addiction and it will be a lot more obvious in Wild Gods (although the one suffering the addiction may come as a surprise, hee hee).

anyway thank @fenkizard for this chapter coming out a lot earlier than I had planned to post it and please read their excellent fic Physical Instrument, I am beyond obsessed with it.
