Like, say he's killed his entire team, his family, Roddy and Sentinel's teams, he takes down the governing body not caring for friend or foe because he's being used. Of course when they discard him he's left with the horrific realization he's just destroyed his only family.

Ratchet, Bulkhead, Bumblebee, Prowl, even Sari. He's murdered Jazz, the twins, Blurr, Minerva, Brawn, Hotshot, Red Alert, Roddy, Senti, Ultra, Yoke, Kup, slaughtered at his own hands. And now he has nothing. The realization hits him so hard his mind breaks, and he's left a feral, angry creature, nothing like before. Feralization is a process in which a civil framed mech becomes a wild, unstable animalistic husk of what they once were. Naturally born ferals can be tamed, but those who lose their minds are monsters to those who turned on them in their former life.

Ferals are characterized by their skiddishness and animalistic nature. A tail, foul talons, dangerous teeth, a shifted skeletal structure, he loses his mind and becomes a wild animal from the agony of what he's done. As the Quintessons rule over Cybertron and do their best to eradicate anyone that can turn against them, they fail to realize Optimus isn't done with them.
