Ferdirenz holds such a special place in my heart actually.
Especially pre-ts ferdirenz.
Two boys with internalised homophobia (externalised in Lorenz's case) who are expected to marry a noblewoman once they've left the academy and end up falling in love with each other. They both realise they're into men and end up using each other for it.
It all has to be so quiet and secretive because absolutely no one can know this is going on otherwise they risk their fathers' finding out.
It's not even a serious relationship because they can't be and so there's this added shame of acting like 'common whores' giving into their base urges.
They're both so hot and cold with each other, unable to get past this barrier of shame over betraying their noble duties. They're already grieving the inevitable end to their relationship because they will have no choice but to leave each other by the end of the academic year when they're both married off.
Lorenz is also essentially cheating on Ferdinand as he flirts with women and is actively looking for a wife whilst they're together and Ferdinand can't even be upset with him because he knows full well that Lorenz has no choice.
Just a really toxic fling where they're projecting their shame onto each other the entire time and they can't quite move past that internal block despite wanting each other so desperately.
conversations I've had with @faerghusfucker and @vestracore, my two wonderful, amazing friends
