How would you describe a city to a foreigner? Would you lead them towards the tourist attractions? Would you shop with them at the high-end department stores? Would you take them to historical monuments and landmarks? But there are images you can just look up online. It’s already a city any foreigner knows. But a city is far more than the pristine images printed on postcards. Images can never be enough for anything. They don’t show you kids shooting other kids with real guns. They don’t show you the violence done against women. They don’t show you the neglect and ruin the marginalized are left to deal with. If someone asks you how beautiful Brazil really is, tell them to watch City of God.

The Two Popes: Who new we had two popes? I think when it really comes down to it, what I like best in a film is just two intelligent, well written, stubborn characters, with opposing views, just arguing for two hours .... and that is exactly what this film gave me. It’s very nice to see that Jonathan Price is picking these more serious roles as opposed to the hammier James Bond baddy or bumbling buffoon dad in Pirates of The Caribbean. Both Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Price where brilliant in equally conflicting ways and just such a joy to watch going into verbal intellectual battle of wits against one another. Not only is it a masterclass in acting skill and talent but also a very interesting account of our current religious situation and what has happened in the Roman Catholic Church over the last century. Such as did you know the current Pope is the first Pope from the Southern Hemisphere? Me neither. I learnt a lot and implore you to see this film and do likewise. i was so happy rachel weisz introduced the two popes to honor her friend fernando meirelles!!! i remember how passionately she thanked him when she won the golden globe in 2006 for the constant gardener, one of my all-time fav films <3
