Big ups to LoJoFam Fernell Hogan. The new musical KIMBERLY AKIMBO had its official Off-Broadway opening night last night. This widely-praised new musical stars Tony winner Victoria Clark, Steven Boyer, & LoJoFav Bonnie Milligan , with Alli Mauzey and four amazing young performers (two in their Off-Broadway debuts.) Fernell is the vet among the young ensemble with a hit Broadway show under this belt (The Prom) and the first national tour of the Tina Fey hit Mean Girls. Olivia Elease Hardy (Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, US Tour) and new-comers Justin Cooley & Michael Iskander round out the small cast. The reviews are rolling in for this off-beat comedy about a teen with an aging disease that makes her look like a 72 year old. Amount the quotes from last night, “The best new musical of 2021” (Time Out New York,) “a momentous work of theatre, exquisitely performed.” (Theaterly) The book and lyrics are by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire and the music by Tony-winner Jeanine Tesori.
