In his early days as a Phantom Lord mage (around age 11), he used to cry a lot in private. Even after a year, he still mourned the loss of his grandparents, but he didn’t let anyone know that; he would quietly cry himself to sleep on some nights. The only person who found out was Gajeel, and that was due to his superior sense of smell (he could smell the dried tears on his face). It gave them a common ground- not having any parental figures to teach them right from wrong; they were both hurting, even if Gajeel wouldn’t admit it. After being called a crybaby and told to get over it (”Cryin’ won’t bring ‘em back.”), Totomaru stopped weeping and focused on becoming stronger, both emotionally, physically, and magic-wise.
