Spoleto and Piccolo Spoleto Festivals are here! May 26 - June 11th 2017

The world renowned Spoleto festival is back!  A shared arts, music and theater festival that Charleston hosts the last week of May into June, since 1977. A prized event here in the Holy City, venues are found throughout the churches and theaters of Charleston. For tickets, times and pricing, view:  https://spoletousa.org/

It is a sister event to the “Festival of Two Worlds” held in Spoleto, Italy, running in tandem, from late June into July. To view the Italian version offerings for its sister festival, view here: http://www.festivaldispoleto.com/  

Pulitzer-Prize winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti, along with Christopher Keene, wanted to find a special city that mirrored the beauty and venues of Spoleto, Italy. The ‘Holy City’ Charleston, with its magnificent churches and abundant charming theaters, seemed to be the perfect fit.  

The event is held yearly with a plethora of musical and theater events and showings.  

Concurrently, here in the city of Charleston, is the beloved Piccolo Spoleto, which was started in 1979. This local artist festival is an excellent companion to its International cousin. Piccolo Spoleto was started by the City of Charleston’s Office of Cultural Affairs and cooperation’s with the Charleston Arts Community. There are Children’s Programs, Choral, Instrumental, Theater, Poetry and Art Showings throughout the peninsula and surrounding areas.
