Capricci/Festoni - Temporary Score: 14
Description: thick, ruffled helices - "festive"
First Take Points: 5 - oh boy are these festive! they would be equally at home dangling from your ceiling during the holidays (altho maybe painted silver or gold, i don't know that "pasta-color" is a particularly festive color?) - but beyond their festive appearance, look at all the nooks and crannies in this pasta! it was MADE for holding - nay, CRADLING - red sauce. and it did. with aplomb. i can't wait to eat this pasta again.
Remix Bonus Points: 5 - i haven't even decided what i'm using it in yet, i just know it will be baller. this is actually a shape that is well suited to a thinner sauce, but i think it would still rock a nice cheese coat. and actually this would be a fascinating pasta to use in a pastitsio instead of ziti. you give up the ziti interior but you get in return all of these nooks and crannies, plus the delightful mouthfeel of this pasta. you know what, i'm giving it another Remix Bonus Point, brb...
Amusement Points: 4 - just LOOK AT IT, it's so much fun!!! how can you not be amused! and while i generally sigh with light frustration when the same pasta shape is running around with multiple names (or when a single name returns eight different shapes), i actually adore both "Festoni" and "Capricci" - festoni because it's like, silly festive, and capricci because it sends my mind down an etymological rabbit-hole.
Annoyance Deductions: 0 - nothing. absolutely nothing to say.
Alternative Uses: why would you do something else with this pasta when you can EAT IT??? also, it cannot be used as a straw, which i think is a new sub-category of alt uses that i need to attend to.
