heat.

On a night in December, the heating in the building breaks. A frantic phone call to the landlord doesn’t help – there’s a promise to fix it, but they won’t send anyone until tomorrow morning. So there it is; one night to get through. One cold night while the last of the day’s heat leaks out the windows. It’s not supposed to be unbearable.
By the time it’s nearing 2 a.m., Harin has been awake and shivering for the better part of an hour. The spare blankets are out, and he’s worn a hoodie to bed, but the extra efforts … they’re not really enough. There also isn’t a whole lot he can do to make it better – sleeping in a parka doesn’t sound comfortable, so he’s ruled out that possibility, and just staying up all night while running his laptop and leaching heat off of it borders on tragic. Plus, he does have lectures to attend in the afternoon; the idea is to be somewhat conscious by then, not to stagger onto the university campus looking and feeling like a zombie.
There’s a moment while Harin chews on his lower lip, considering; but then he sits up, swings his legs over the edge of the bed, and gathers up one of the blankets.
The bedroom is tiny, but there’s two beds crammed in here, two occupants. Harin crosses the space between them in as many steps, tosses his blanket on top of the ones that are already covering Kaein, and then begins the somewhat difficult task of climbing on top of them without completely crushing the other boy. Mixed success on that account, thanks to the darkness enveloping them, but he manages to brace his hands on either side of where he assumes Kaein’s shoulders are, hovering just above him.
“… Hey.” Harin keeps his voice quiet, a little above a whisper. “Move over. It’s too cold over there.”
