So she keeps trying. Even when Alex stops answering her calls, stops replying to her texts with anything more than one word, unless it’s about work. When her answers start getting shorter and sharper. When the taller woman pulls away from her touch. Maggie still tries for something, anything to salvage what they have. It comes to a head finally though, finally.
“I can’t concentrate on finding Supergirl with you hovering, Maggie! Back off! I need to focus.”
And Maggie’s hands go up. She takes a step back, then another. Swallowing hard to push away the way her voice wants to crack. Sucking in a sharp breath and waiting just a moment to see if Alex is going to say anything else. But the silence is thick and her girlfriend won’t even look at her. So with another breath and a drop of her arms to wrap around her torso, Maggie looks down, then backs away further. “I’ll stop getting in the way then.” She turns and walks out the door, not looking back, not wanting to see that Alex isn’t even watching her leave.
A little glimpse at the One-Shot I’m writing for that first painful headcanon I sent @sanjunipero1987 ( @the-laughing-wolf, figured you might want a look too)
