suki sat upon her bed, her eyes glancing down at her phone, just like they always were. she was practically glued to her device, and more so in a ‘wow, that’s depressing’ kind of way then just a ‘what’s the last news in that one family where all their names start with a K?’. scrolling through her gallery, her eyes glanced at the pictures that were now more than over a year old. there was one of suki and her friends, maybe a few days before the accident. they were smiling, with one of them making a funny face. even if that friend wasn’t here anymore, it was a picture that made suki smile, even if she couldn’t truly remember why she loved the picture so much. moving along, she scrolled into another one of her and jace sitting in a booth at some diner. they were both smiling with a peace sign being held up by suki. she did remember this one, only vaguely though. it was around the time she started to realize her feelings for jace were becoming stronger, crossing the simple line of staying just friends. something in her wanted more, and it was terrifying.
not wanting jace to be bombarded by her parents, she sent him a quick text to simply let her know when he was in the driveway. there would be another time where her parents could welcome jace into the house, sit him down and catch up on old times that suki would barely remember, if she even remembered at all. standing up to pace by the mirror, she made sure her outfit was smoothed out and wrinkle free. ruffling up her blonde, wavy locks, a smile graced her features as she was satisfied with the outcome. there was once a time she didn’t care what she looked like in front of jace. now, it was the total opposite. she had to look pretty, no, stunning, for the boy. she supposed that’s how it worked when you wanted to impress someone, even your best friend. once she received the boys text, stating he was here, suki grabbed her purse and headed downstairs, telling her parents she would be home later and exiting the house. reaching the passenger side of jace’s car, she happily hoped inside and secured her seatbelt. “did you know this is my first time listening to music live? well, that i can remember at least. it’s kind of exciting,” she beamed.
