Making my way through SB! Thought it was time for some edits!
Day 9 - What’s your least favorite thing about the game so far?
Time to insert what’s probably a slightly unpopular opinion but hey, it asks and I answer. The lurking toxicity in the community.
Don't get me wrong the vast majority is cool beans but there are always those ones who have to believe they're better than everyone else because their e-peen demands it, touting numbers and fflogs and the like as if they’re all that matter in an MMO. The toxicity concerns go for both content and roleplay though (especially if it comes to lore for one reason or another). I mean I'm all for knowing at least the gist of your class and having some character aspects detailed that make sense for the universe we’re acting within but you don't need to be perfect to get things done for the most part in this game. The lack of perfection is what makes things better in some cases and more enjoyable. Doing stupid stuff in runs with friends has been some of the most fun things I’ve done. Not to mention it’s human to err here and there, if you learn from it then what’s the harm, seriously. Though then there's the other end of the spectrum with the people who really don't try to learn or are way too stubborn to take even a little bit of help. That can be equally frustrating
...I just don't even and it just gets tiring if I try to dwell on it. So I'll stick to being in between the two extremes and enjoying it for how it is and always striving to improve...While having lots of fun.
Day 8 - What’s your favorite thing about the game so far?
The story. I'm a total sucker for it for some reason, especially the further along it progresses. There's more feeling to it than in most other MMOs I've played and is a big pull for me.
There are other things that stand out but story is definitely the first thing that comes to mind
Day 7 - What game(s) did you come from, and why did you leave?
So before we found the obsession that is FFXIV, both my fiancé and I pretty avidly played SWTOR. I mained a juggernaut tank and he had a marauder that he was pretty damn good at. We both had our own raid groups (I got thrown into lead of mine due to circumstances not too long after joining it...Talk about a learning curve x.x ) and...we both pretty much burned out on it about the time the Shadow of Revan expansion hit.
What it all boiled down to was that his was a pretty dang serious raid group that was actually decent and mine was almost a joke in comparison that stressed me to no end. Every week was a complete struggle in filling slots or making any sort of forward progress on nightmare content. I don’t even know how long we were stuck on fucking Draxus if we did clear I think it was a miracle. Most of my own personal progression came from the other two main raid groups of our guild pulling me for help on things when they needed a tank.
So pretty much we both essentially spent months of suffering in Dread Palace and Fortress and lost our fight. He still refuses to seriously raid even now (to the point where he doesn’t want to do most EX primals) though I’m a little more open to it but have a completely incompatible schedule due to my job.
We dabbled a bit in a few MMOs after that. Guild Wars 2 and WoW come to immediate memory. And then we came to FFXIV and I don't think either of us regret it. At least I don't with all the wonderful people I've met and fun times had.
Day 6 - Tell the story of your worst dungeon experience!
Oh boy do I have a gem for you guys! On Figaro, before Creator came out I was running with some of my FC mates on Behemoth through Midas stuff for our weekly drops. A5 went fine and was nothing special, but then we got a real winner of a group for A6. Two of the members didn't have their job stones equipped which is a huge red flag when you think about it now, but a definite cause for confusion at the time. So there we have it: a conjurer and a rogue. We get to Brawler and that's when their intentions become obvious. They take turns provoking the boss from the tank on the single laser, thus murdering the rest of us because we’re squishy. I mean it was obvious because you could see the very specific provoke animation go off but at first it was definitely like “Uh...wut?”
I think we tried two or three times while putting the pieces together and keep in mind here, about half the party was our pre-made. After realizing what's up one of my friends calls them out on it and they try the denial but I mean everything points to their trolling. So they start spamming to vote dismiss our friend. Like every time we go to deny it they immediately redo it and we don't get the chance to beat them to the punch. And it was relentless on that point where nothing productive was getting done and the whole dungeon more or less just stopped. In the end we ended up having to dismiss him just so we could move the heck on, the rest of our group leaving immediately after because like hell were we staying. I do know said friend reported them and talked to a GM but I have no clue the aftermath.
It bugs me just remembering it xD
I swear I'm not a procrastinator on challenges: Day 4 - Why did you choose your race?
It gave me some inspiration for full-on character creation and let me come up with ideas that I like and want to play with. Since she’s been created in part for roleplay potential being able to craft backstory was a must and my muse Rinalys was born. For Figaro I guess I could answer too. Because I like cats and the friend I was playing with decided we would be Miqo'te siblings just for fun xD Also we’re going to ignore that it’s been months since I did the last day. Whoops? I got sick back then and work schedule had temporarily changed so it pretty much got derailed...
FFXIV 30-Day Challenge
Day 29 - Tell us about your FC/LS! If none, what are you looking for in one?
I’m kind of in a FC with other countrymen... but most of the time we have nothing in common (playing times being on top of the list), so I mostly solo or run roulettes with PUGs.
Recently I’ve been added to a linkshell hosting a variety of people from across Europe and even the ocean, so at least I’ve got someone to banter with!
Day 30 - What’s your biggest hope for the future of the game?
That Square stops adding Mogstation-exclusive fashion items. We already pay a sub, dammit.
FFXIV 30-Day Challenge
Day 27 - What are some features you’d like to see imported from other MMOs?
The wardrobe system from Guild Wars 2, hands down.
Day 28 - If you could ride any creature in game as a mount, what would you choose?
One of the primal ponies... After all, I already know how to ride a horse.
