FFXV Week: Day 6 – Tragedy // Ardyn Izunia
Here is a super-short drabble I did for FFXV Week. I’m sorry if it’s not the best, as I had a REALLY hard time writing because I couldn’t seem to write anything; but I do like how this ended up. Anway, please enjoy. :)
==============================================
It had been 1862 days since his last incident.
Of course, Ardyn made sure to keep the small, black record book on his person at all times. Even if some foolish person should peer inside and see naught but a book with missing pages and several written slashes, they would never be able to interpret it. No, the notebook held a meaning only he could understand, and one that he was quite proud of too. And while the rather childish action was absolutely silly and slightly worrisome, it gave him a slightly stable ground to stand upon.
…Until it all came tumbling down with only a few words.
“Ah, to be forever young.”
He froze, his back to the four young men as they spoke amongst themselves. The words bounced about his mind and summoned memories he had long since buried…ones that only came on occasion. Calmly he waited for the four friends to turn in for the evening, with himself waiting for a few moments before walking away from the caravan and the rest stop.
His breathing became erratic as he thought of the blonde’s careless words. Did he honestly wish to have such a cruel curse? To linger on like some ancient relic while the world continued on without you. To be cast out and suffer in a horrid loneliness for all time. Ardyn could feel tears start to build against his eyes as he tugged at his hair, lost to the world as he continued with his fit.
“I didn’t want this….” he spoke; his voice getting louder with each breath. “I-I didn’t ask for any of it!”
He could feel the memories seemingly rush back to him in an instant; the arrest within the middle of Insomnia, where he was declared a monster and daemon. He remembered awakening within that damned island prison, begging and pleading for someone, anyone to hear him. And then…the steady descent into the dark as the daemons began to whisper within his mind the same horrors night after night.
And it was then that Ardyn Lucis Caelum, imprisoned by the nightmares within his own mind, sobbed.
When the tears had run dry and his fit had come to an end, Ardyn mentally gathered the broken pieces of his façade before returning that broken, shell of a man back into the depths of his mind. He slowly regained a hold over his emotions and felt comfort in the skin of the Chancellor that he now wore. He then withdrew the small, black notebook from his coat and proceeded to tear out the pages that held multiple tally’s. He tossed them upon the grass and with a snap of his fingers, set the papers on fire as the ashes swirled into the evening sky.
Now it’s been 0 days since his last incident….
