Commission for @forbiddenseason of her two OCs Ilva and Fhaine. They’ve played big parts in our tabletop campaigns, and I love them both so getting to draw them together was fun!

literally everyone’s favorite: Fhaine- god of mischief and mayhem.

Something about Fhaine that I can't stress enough
Fhaine is a really fucking complicated guy. He’s definitely chaotic evil but that’s just for how he is NOW. In the long run he’s more chaotic neutral. Fhaine does things that are really terrible but also has done things that are spectacularly good.
The biggest issues with why he’s evil come from two things: which are a need for validation and a removal from reality as mortals know it.
Validation: Doing evil things made Fhaine gain followers for the first time in his life. He’s a born god with no innate purpose. He’s suicidal and feels there no real reason for him to exist. But suddenly people worship him- despite them being people outside of his realm? It’s amazing. So he wants to continue doing things that these followers appreciate. This is why he doesn’t stop when Amanja begs him to.
Removal from reality: All Gods experience a certain disconnect between their actions and the way they effect mortals- but it’s especially significant for Fhaine. Fhaine, being born in the afterlife by the fairy god of death, doesn’t understand why death is a ‘thing’ to people. He knows for a fact what the afterlife is like, he knows that death isn’t the end of things for most people. So when people die from his actions he doesn’t emotionally understand that it’s wrong. Logically he realizes it’s wrong at some point and then gets SUPER extra about his actions because he’s like “well, I’m already terrible. Might as well be The Worst” but originally it came from a love of fun and mischief- and then for a desire to do good.
What this creates in his character though is not a love of cruelty but a love of fun. Given that he gets over the desire for validation from his evil followers and comes to his senses in other areas, he could very, very easily be good again.
But for now he’ll take control of people’s minds and make them steal bones and shit
Commission for @forbiddenseason of her characters Amanja and Fhaine, whomst I adore.
