i lost my job earlier this year coaching debating at an elite all boys school after three years of successful teams because i was told the boys would respect a male more. i was demoted to the team i had in my first year and replaced in my first and second preference by two men who yielded less successful results. when i emailed the school a polite but firm complaint about being treated on the basis of gender, i received no response. earlier tonight, i was asked why i left the school, and i was honest, before being told by another man who is usually respectful of feminism that i shouldnβt say anything about it for fear of upsetting the school/my past employers. and i just...?
like this is the entire problem. if we donβt talk about it, and if i have to hide what happened to me, nothing ever gets done to fix it. why should i be silent? i did nothing wrong. i have been respectful. i have been polite. and i have been ignored. even people who i am close to who are aware of feminism donβt understand what the problem is, because theyβve never suffered that kind of oppression.
fuck me. whenever someone says feminism isnβt necessary, i literally just laugh.
