“  you think everyone fucking deserves it these days,  ”  he stated, like he was in any position to talk. he was out there actively murdering innocent people on a daily basis, just because ares wanted him to. this wasn’t about him, though, this was all about hart and the fact that she was out there being fucking foolish because she didn’t have him anymore. she was acting out, and he had to deal with her antics on top of ensuring he kept another handful pleased as well. leave it to him to have two regular responsibilities he never fucking asked for.  “  shut the fuck up, i have no fucking choice when it comes to him,  ”  he sneered, narrowing his gaze at her. she loved to test his patience, had he been human, he could handle it, but his patience was near nonexistent as a vampire, especially one without any humanity.  “  why the fuck do you have a death wish ?  ”  he asked, shaking his head incredulously.  “  actually, don’t even answer that, because you’re just going to make yourself sound fucking pathetic.  ”  he didn’t really feel inclined to believe that she wasn’t going to go off and do something stupid, given the fact she literally just got pulled away from a bar fight.  “  you’re gross and wet, don’t make me carry you again.  ”

"oh yeah because i’m so sure that unsuspecting couple who were found ripped to shreds in their own house totally had it coming, right?” it was fucking hypocritical and she didn’t need to be lectured by a goddamn ripper for PUNCHING a girl when he was out here doing things that they couldn’t even blame on the usual animal attack. she didn’t care if what she’d been doing was reckless, fuck him. he was allowed to just turn off his emotions, not give a fuck about the feelings while she had to feel everything. it wasn’t fair. hart knows it’s unfair, that she shouldn’t be so cold about the whole ares thing, she knows he doesn’t have much of a choice but she’s also just angry. he fucked with her head, fucked her and then left. she was just sick of it all and she was sick of him treating her like a fucking kid. she knew what she was doing. “if it’s so pathetic then why don’t you just fuck off and mind your business?” she tilts her head tot he side. she pretends not to seem hurt by it though, she knows his cruelty by now that it doesn’t bother her as much as it used to....but it still stings. “do you remember the LAST TIME you carried me home? are you sure you want to go there again?”

“  what’s your fucking point ? you’re out here acting like a little brat starting bar fights with random girls because you’re not happy,  ”  he stated, shaking his head in disbelief. he couldn’t leave her alone for a moment, she was reckless and endangering her life regularly. he narrowed his gaze at her words, a humorless laugh passing through his lips as she pointed out the fact that he was an emotionless, murderous monster of the night.  “  oh, haha. you’re so fucking funny,  ”  he retorted, the words flat and unimpressed. frankly, he didn’t really feel bad about the murders, he wasn’t the most emotional human to begin with, it really was a no brainer when it came to flipping that switch to save her. he just hadn’t fully anticipated the extent of her foolish antics that would follow his decision. dante couldn’t keep going around and trying to save her from every situation she got herself into, it’d raise concerns, but there he was, doing it anyways.  “  why ? so you can go do something fucking stupid again ? absolutely not. i’m taking you home, let’s go… and don’t try to fucking argue with me, i’m not in the mood.  ”

"whatever, fuck you. she deserved it and it would’ve been fine if you learned to mind your own fucking business.” she spat back. hart is very much aware of what she’s doing but really it didn’t seem so bad when you consider the fact that your boyfriend is a vampire turned to homicidal ripper and is working along an ancient vampire on some kind of fucked up murder spree. she figures most people would go down a spiral at this point and she was only just starting. “and you still have a bit of samantha in your teeth, might wanna fix that before your hot date with ares.” she wasn’t trying to be funny, she just wanted to be a bitch. she’d been drinking slightly and she had a lot of pint up anger. she shrugs “are you ever in the mood? who knew being a ripper could be so fucking lame.” eyes roll, she’s not in the mood to argue either but she also doesn’t want to go home. she hated being home, it gave her too much time to herself, too much time to think about shit she didn’t want to think about. “i’m not going to do anything stupid but i’m not going anywhere with you either. just fuck off go find some grandma to chew on.”

“  clearly, you do need me to save your ass if you’re going around getting into stupid barfights.  ”  he countered simply, rolling his eyes at her unnecessary dramatics. he wasn’t trying to be a full time babysitter on top of everything else, but he couldn’t turn away for more than a moment before she was going and getting herself into some type of trouble. dante knew she didn’t care much for getting pulled away from fights, but he also didn’t think any of her recent ones were really necessary, either. why was she so adamant on being reckless ? dante rolled his eyes at her words, arms folding across his chest after he’d set her down on her feet outside of the bar.  “  you can be as pissed as you want, princess. i don’t really care. stop doing stupid shit like this and i won’t have to pull you away from fights.  ”

"oh really? because last time i checked i wasn’t the one pinned to the floor getting my face punched in.” she’s not even totally sure how the fight started, going out to purposely provoke so girl just for the hell of it but it worked didn’t it? she got what she wanted out of it until her oh so lovely ‘hero’ got in her way and fucked it all up. it seemed as though no matter where she went he was somewhere in the shadows, watching over her, keeping her out of trouble. when she’s placed back on her feet she rolls her eyes, fixing her dress as she pushes her wet hair from her face. “that’s a big lecture coming from a psychopathic vampire who literally rips people to pieces.” her words dry yet mocking. sure, part of her was doing this just to get his attention but sometimes it seemed like it was the only way that she could really prove to herself that he still loved her, deep down in that cold heart of his was the boy she fell in love with all those years ago. “you can GO now.”

we need to talk. those were heavy, terrifying words … —  words that were often followed by less than desirable news. his mind immediately went into panic mode at that, what could she have to say to him ? he felt a sick feeling settle into the pit of his stomach as his mind raced with all sorts of possibilities of what she was going to tell him. what did they need to talk about ? dante swallowed nervously, he wondered if she could see just how panicked he truly was. those were so not the first words he wanted to hear, and the way that she was acting only further confused him and made him wonder just how bad this was going to be. dante watched her closely, trying his best to keep himself as composed as he could, because he was worried about hart, too. she wasn’t acting like herself, she seemed distant and upset, that didn’t sit well with him. dante hesitantly stepped forward, keeping his gaze on hart. 

he did his best to remind himself to breathe, he wanted to do what he could to set aside his own feelings of panic so he was able to focus on hart and her needs. all he wanted to do was be able to support her and let her know that he was there for her, even if he had no idea what was actually going on at that moment. he took a few more steps until he was closer, gaze fixated on her as he tried to read her mind, get any idea of what it was that they needed to talk about that had her in a state like this.  “  baby, what’s wrong ?  ”  he asked, hand slowly reached out to rest against her cheek.  “  talk to me.  ”

hart never really saw herself as a mother, she never believed she could do it with her fucked up past and watching how badly her parents messed her up...she didn’t want to do that to a kid, an innocent life? she felt sick to her stomach and she’s not sure if that is the sickness from the pregnancy or from the fucking nerves. her eyes look back at him for a long moment, she’s playing how to say this in her mind, what do you even say? hey congrats you’re tied to me for at least eighteen years, if they even decided to keep it and even then this was something that would shake up an otherwise perfectly great relationship.

when she feels his hand cup her face it’s almost automatic as her face begins to soften. this wasn’t a situation she ever wanted to find herself in, becoming a mother? but at least she didn’t have to be alone. there was comfort in knowing he was there for her, it just wasn’t enough to make her feel okay about this whole thing. she moves her hand covers the one placed upon her cheek, her eyes looking up to meet his own. deep breath in, deep breath out. “ i...i think, i’m... ” she lets out a shaky breath. “i think i’m pregnant.”

"yeah well, i don’t need you to save me i’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself believe it or not.” another club fight, what was that? like the third one in the last month? she’s really not trying to go for some type of record but hart can never really seem to stay out of trouble either and she was lucky she got out of that fight semi-unharmed. just a bit of a scratch on her cheek and slightly damp from the drink that had been thrown in her face about two seconds before the tight broke out and dante was pulling her back. which kind of annoyed her, she didn’t need saving nor did she like being carried away from fights --- it made her feel like she lost. “i’m not thanking you for getting in my way if that’s what you’re looking for either. in fact i’m really pissed at you right now.”

it was a level anxiety she was not prepared for, she tried not to panic, keep a cool head because hey, it’s normal to be a little late but then a little late turns into a lot late and then a lot late turns into random spurts of sickness throughout the day. but no way in hell was she actually....nope, not even going to think of the word, not until she was sure like multiple tests sure and what felt like two hours of her googling other options for what it could be but it seemed as time went on the less she could really avoid the truth. the stupid little stick (of many) that sat on the bathroom counter repeating the same as the others, positive. she was royally fucked and though she’s trying not to panic right now there was that quick realization she had to share this news with dante the second he came home. what would he think? it’s not like they were actually ready for this and worse of all she’d been avoiding this conversation with him for a few days now, she needed to be sure and now she was.

she can hear the door open to their apartment, hyperaware of his foot steps making their way closer inside their shared home it was now or never and honestly? she was hoping for never like...maybe this was actually some sort of weird dream and she’d wake up from it without a second thought. but as she’s stepping out into their small living space, his eyes landing on her as they had so many times before she simply cannot imagine waking up from this anytime soon. hart tries to fake a smile but she’s keeping her distances for some reason, like she’s nervous he’d sense it if they touched or something, she was in her head right now. “we need to talk.”
