Rally di Roma Capitale and exciting final FIA ERC round news
Damiano De Tommaso took a hard-earned victory at Rally di Roma Capitale as Andrea Crugnola's challenge struck mechanical issues and faltered. Having led for the first five stages
De Tommaso (in his Škoda Fabia Rally2) led for the first five stages of the FIA ERC event was overhauled by Crugnola. Crugnloa and his Citroën C3 Rally2 maintained the rally lead until the event’s longest stage when throttle response issues caused the erstwhile leader to plummet to fifth overall. De Tommaso reclaimed the lead and took a hard earned victory from fellow Škoda driver Simone Campedelli.
Citroën C3 driver Yoann Bonato led home FIA ERC championship leader Efrén Llarena as the Spanish MRF Škoda took fourth overall to extend his championship lead to an impressive 58 points. The next championship round is the Barum Czech Rally Zlín (26 - 28 August) which could see Llarena seal the title before the FIA ERC’s final round.
In an impressive turn of events the FIA ERC final round sees Europe’s finest drive the exact stages as the WRC drivers as both battle it out on the RallyRACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada - offering the ultimate spectacle to rally fans worldwide.
The sealed-surface fixture fills the date left outstanding when the 2022 calendar was announced and takes place from 20 - 22 October.
