In addition to the Fiat 124 Sport Spider, Pininfarina presented an alternative hardtop two-door, two-seat coupe design in 1966. The Fiat 124 Sport Coupé Speciale’s exterior was almost identical to the Tom Tjaarda designed Spider, with the main difference being the panoramic rear window framed by a thick B-pillar. Pininfarina's proposal was rejected, with Fiat opting for its own design for a spacious four-seat 124 coupé.
