We got a new goat! This little guy is named Hickory and he just turned four months old! He's the great grandbaby of my beloved goat Candy and I am so happy to have her line back in my herd! We plan for hil to be our herd sire. He's the sweetest little thing, and an absolutely beautiful color so fingers crossed that his fiber is good!
I went to SAFF today, and pet a whole bunch of sweet sheep and angora goats. Shetland sheep are in our farm's future, I'm just not sure how far in the future. ^^;
I got to meet these two handsome boys this weekend! I've decided to breed two of my does this April for some late summer babies! I'm really excited to have baby goats again, and it will be fun to start expanding my herd. I think I'll get some interesting colors as well!
Are you curious about what happens on shearing day at a small local farm? Come with me to Green Apple Alpacas and find out!
Treasured among various First Nations communities, the Coast Salish woolly dog was more than your average pet hound
“I think that it absolutely can happen and it should happen,” remarks White-Hill, who divulges it has always been his “personal dream” to see its return.
“Bringing back a genetically identical dog might not be possible, but at the core of the issue, for us as Coast Salish community, collectively and as a community, it is our right to say what the Coast Salish woolly dog is,” he says.
“If we choose to breed and do selective breeding to bring them back or create a similar breed, that is our right to say that this is the Salish wool dog.”
I just bought a cashmere sweater and it is one of the softest, coziest, drappiest piece of clothing I've ever had. I'm officially adding cashmere goats alongside alpacas on the list of stock I will keep on my future farm. I've worked with both species in the past but the goat herd i helped care for was very skittish and not socialized so I didn't have much interest. I never experienced their fiber before though, hot damn.
