hi dearest!!! such a fun idea for Nootmas! my question: in the prompt-filling modules there's "pairing(s)". is it possible to submit a prompt without a pairing? like a friendship/platonic/family centered fic?

Dear friend, I almost never check messages... I am so sorry I missed this. In future, for almost any fest, especially ones hosted here, fics without pairings are totally fine. Family/friend/"other characters interacting" fics are lovely! Maybe not for something like Coops Week or O'Knutzy week (or anything specifically NSFW like Spicy Spring) but I think we understand each other. Happy writing/reading!!

Fic-O-Ween Rules!

Same rules as usual, but it's nice to refresh:

Fics can be any length, 100 word drabbles to 10k novellas. You can create for as many prompts as you like, although it's fun to try for all 13. You can post after the prompt day, but please try not to post beforehand. (I understand time zones make this somewhat difficult, so as long as it's "Day X" where you are, you can post the Day X fic.)

Fics can be any rating and the fest uses the AO3 system of General, Teen, Mature, and Explicit. Use content warnings at your own discretion. This is a spooky and autumnal fest, so we should understand there may be some spooky/scary themes sometimes.

When posting, please tag this page to alert me to your submittal. Feel free to post on AO3 and share a link or post directly on tumblr. All submittals will be reblogged on this (noots-fic-fests) tumblr, but please also share links in the appropriate Our Work channel (general or spicy) on the Hazelnoots server.

Rules

⭑ Your fic must be a minimum of 2,500 words.

⭑ All fics must feature fairytale, myth, folklore, or magical creature themes as the main focus.

⭑ Your fic must be completed when posted — no WIPs.

⭑ The fic must be standalone, meaning readers shouldn’t need to read any previous fics to understand it (sequels after the fest are welcome, but won’t be included in the collection).

⭑You must have (or create) an AO3 account where your fic will be posted.

⭑ The use of AI is not allowed (That includes both writing and graphics!!)

Fest Participation

⭑ Every fic must have a moodboard, photoset, or visual element to accompany the post. Don’t worry if you’re not sure how — the mods can help or connect you with someone!

⭑ A beta reader and/or Brit-picker is encouraged, but not required.

Posting

⭑ Fic links and graphics will be posted on Tumblr and Twitter to help promote your work. If you don’t use one or both platforms, the fest account will post on your behalf — just let us know.

⭑ You need an Extension? Just let us know and we’ll figure something out!

⭑ All posts must tag Fairytale Fic Fest.

Prompt Sign Ups

⭑ Writers may sign up for one prompt during the first week of claims.(14/08/2025)

⭑ If you’d like to write a second fic, you may claim another prompt starting one week later. (21/08/2025)

⭑ Writers may commit to a maximum of two fics for this fest. But only if you’re 100% sure you can commit to this.
