lmao sorry didn’t mean to give you a mixed message i meant that even with your awesome writing and loving the series, a fic about tenzin isn’t for me and it was pretty dumb of me to try but because I love the inbetweens I thought I might like him more. not really. i wish it had a linear narrative so i could read more about his life and maybe try to understand him more but the second i saw pema and lin i couldn’t. i get what you mean about lin but unless she told him she wanted kids and marriage and a different life and lied to him for years i don’t agree with they were both at fault approach when he just up and left her for someone else he already had feelings for. he was a cheating shithead coward actually. it’s more likely that he never said anything and lin thought he accepted her and their life together even if they were going through a rough patch but she didn’t know he was getting close to someone else and planing a future with her. a teenager acolyte. we only saw lin still be affected by the break up. i hate tenzin and lin together and i wish the show didn’t make her still be hurt about what happened because him? really? but it did, so to make it like she also wanted out and just never said anything and was also to blame is usually to make tenzin look better and ofc you should do it because you love him and you should write whatever you want. and i didn’t think i could ever write so much about this when i didn’t even like most of tlok and unlike atla only saw it once and no more but kataang deserved a better son.

‘sup nonnie, let’s break it down!

1) I’m v flattered, truly!, that you’ve enjoyed some things I’ve written! But it’s also fair to simply not engage with stuff you don’t care for in fandom. There are plenty of things in fandom that I don’t care for, so I just don’t interact with it. Which is fine! There is no obligation to do so. (But as a aside this will be the last thing posted that contains character hate, happy to continue discussions, but have little patience for name calling etc. even for fictional characters lol)

But if you are interested in some thoughtsTM, here-

2) The story isn’t about Pema or Lin etc, it’s about Tenzin. If shipping goggles is what you choose to view fandom through, fair play to you, but this isn’t that kind of fic and won’t necessarily grant you that kind of satisfaction. This isn’t a ‘character did nothing wrong and are being absolved of all ills’ deal, just a ‘how did they get form point a to point b during x time’.

3) I’ll admit I’ve seen TLoK probably at least five times through now, but it did take a couple of times for me to truly warm up to all of the characters! It can be hard engaging with a follow up piece of media when the original is so beloved and well done. (As for the writing in LoK.... well that’s what fic is for, right?)

3) Lot’s of extrapolation going on here about a character that doesn’t jive with my personal opinion (perfectly fine!). So thoughts! While there are aspects of all the Kataang kids that make me heavily side-eye the writers, by and large I enjoy them a lot.

So here’s what we know happened in the canon timeline of the whole Lin/Tenzin/Pema fiasco: a) at some point prior to LoK starting, Lin and Tenzin had a relationship. b) at some point Tenzin and Pema met. c) at some point prior to eleven years before Korra arrives in RC, Pema confesses to having feelings for Tenzin and at some point after that he ends things with Lin. d) Lin was upset, did some damage to ATI, and she and Tenzin have a strained relationship moving forward until it’s resolved in s1 of LoK. e) ...that’s it.

That is all that is mentioned in canon. Anything else is fandom filling in the blanks. Anything with cheating or wanting/not wanting kids etc. is purely fanon speculation (and honestly a lot of it is quite OOC for Tenzin, who we are shown consistently being a good family man who is very loyal to the ones he cares about.). But clearly there was a major event that shook them both up and made Tenzin take a hard look at his own life and goals (oh hello again entire fic premise).

4) I guess Lin gets her own number lmao. Prefacing this with that Lin is one of my favorite characters in the ATLA universe (see: blog description). Anyway, Lin still being mad at Tenzin in s1 of LoK is a choiceTM, but not out of character for her at all. She’s stubborn and holds grudges until they literally make her sick with it (see: s3 of LoK), and in the instance of their breakup imo there was a lot of other stuff going on in their lives and it was simply the straw that broke the camel’s back so to speak, thus all of thatTM got focused on Tenzin. (But that’s written out for another chapter of fic, ha!) And as we know, Lin hails from a famously emotionally healthy family line so surely her communication skills are.... *checks notes* oh no. (But again, as previously stated, I’ve written about Lin before so my thoughts are out there.)

5) “Katara and Aang deserved a batter son” that’s a yikes from me ‘nonny! I’ve written my thoughts about kataang and their parenting before, feel free to hunt it down on here.

6) All aforementioned items are the reason I write in the first place! That’s what fandom is for, exploring things from canon in different ways. In this particular case, it’s engaging for me to see how Tenzin got to where he did when we meet him in LoK. There is wayyyyy more going on with him than we ever really get to see in Korra’s story (again, bc it’s her story) which is the interesting part to explore! And if that simply isn’t what is interesting to you, that’s fine too, you don’t owe any explanations. Personally, I don’t enjoy exploring characters purely within the parameters of shipping. It reduces the characters down to one dimension to view them only through one lens. It is interesting in how a characters relationships inform them and our perception of them.

I loved Inbetweens so much that even not being a big fan of Tenzin I had to try. Really good writing as always and yay Zuko being there! No, Aang, don't go! But then Tenzin met Pema and I can't forget she was a 18 years old acolyte and he was the last airbender and I'm just feeling sorry for Lin who has no idea that soon enough she will be replaced by the much younger and sweeter model and she wasted too many years loving that shithead coward. oops sorry, I think Tenzin is really not for me!

And hmmm no spoilers, but that whole messTM of backstory was actually part of what instigated this particular fic being written in the first place, to kind of work that out. (Lin and Tenzin being the types of people to let things fester and go unacknowledged for years??? *checks canon* haha ...oh.) So there have been, shall we say, some timeline adjustments made that will hopefully be clearer in future chapters. ;)

I saw a post implying its panphobic that there are hardly any david/stevie fics while there are a TON of david/patrick fics. they were like “im tired of people only caring about bi/pan people in same sex relationships.” that might be true sometimes but in this case david/stevie was hardly a thing and david is literally marrying patrick lmao

I don't agree with this, just because you don't show a person being with someone of different genders it doesn't mean that you're panphobic or biphobic etc. Like David x Patrick is a big deal and as you said David and Stevie didn't last long (and it wasn't even a relationship to begin with) so it's normal that people are more interested in exploring a committed relationship rather than a two episodes fwb plotline you know? + It's been stressed that Stevie is completely over it after the facts of the s1 finale so again it makes sense that people aren't interested in exploring that. Like as long as you know that that character is still bi/pan/mspec then you're good I think no? But yeah as you said it does happen in some cases but I don't think this is it

That being said, as I said in the tags of a different ask I got yesterday, I would love it if they got more diverse with David's exes, but that's mostly because I project so much on him and headcanon him as not necessarily having preferences.

PLUS a lot of people headcanon or read Stevie as a lesbian! Which is amazing and valid and I think that's also a big reason why lots of people wouldn't want to read or write about that!

As some of you might have noticed, I have a lot of trouble finishing what I start when it comes to longer fics. My list of unfinished drafts, including both mental drafts and those partly written, is ridiculously long. I'd like to get some stuff finished, but I think my problem is that there are so many works in progress, I'm overwhelmed by not knowing what to work on at any given time.

Which brings me to this: a small poll to help me decide on a single larger project to focus on until it's completed! Please pick one OR two of the following and reply/send me a message with the titles you've chosen.

All Kurt and Rachel know is that this roommate is also from Ohio, and he’s Sam’s age. Written as a series of events in chronological order over the space of three years." straight!Blaine, platonic-turned-sexual-turned-romantic sort of thing with some sneaking around and also humor.

Write a prompt or suggest a different WIP that I may have forgotten to put in this list! Or else just tell me to work off of another of my concepts, of which I have many.

A few disclaimers: 

I can't guarantee I'll succeed - this is a trial run to see if single-minded focus will actually get me anywhere.

 Any of these that have already been started may be rewritten entirely if I think that's what it will take to refresh my interest in writing it, or else to update the style of writing to better match my current style.

Also, another part of the reason I'm being slow is because college has turned out to be a very enjoyable and busy time for me, so whatever is picked may not be finished until summer, depending on my pace.

Of course, you don't have to participate, but I would really appreciate some feedback. And, you know, if you know anyone who'd be interested in putting in their vote, feel free to send this along to them.

Oh, wow. I'm blushing! Thank you for the compliment :) 

I'm afraid fic was something I dabbled in a long time ago - I wrote the one I'm guessing you read back in July 2013. I don't write anymore, but you can find all the stuff I did write on my AO3 account here. There's not too much there, maybe a dozen works or so? And most of them are quite short. I think my longest is around 8k. You can take a gander if you'd like, though! :)
