Would you ever write…Optimus being happy and pain-free for once? 🥲

I feel very called out with this question.

I would say Yes off the bat, but let us be real here. I can't write happiness without angst to warrant it. I am very particular about how I style my fics, and I am not one to give a character anything unless they have earned it or will earn it in the future. Optimus gets joy when he's suffered enough to have Primus himself give him a break.

Besides, what would be the fun of an Optimus without any worries? How would we define happy and pain-free? Physical pain? Emotional pain? I would need to know the parameters.

Characters who are not dumb, in fact they might be prodigies or hold multiple advanced degrees and solve or commit crimes in their spare time. But they have just. No fucking clue how to relationship. And hijinks ensue, in no small part because they over think literally everything. That is some delicious sauce.

My Top Four Fics

Hey! I got tagged by the lovely @jaskicr​ in this: fic writer challenge rules: list your four fave fics you’ve written

so here we go!

1. elided aka and we may be elided by the people that we love most

right so this fic started because one of my favorite fanfic tropes is deaging, and I was thinking about how important motherhood is to Yenn, and to the show at its core as well, and I was inspired to try and explore some of my own issues/thoughts about motherhood as a whole. This was (and still is) the longest fic I’ve ever written, and I’m insanely proud still of reaching that milestone with it. plus i just think it’s a good story guys. If you like Yennefer, and the idea of her bonding with Jaskier appeals to you? give it a read.

2. cowgirlskier aka the prairie is vast (the train is quicker)

What can I say except that this was my itj chapter and i only have friends in this fandom because I got invited to be part of this project???? Not only did i enjoy this fic for the main premise (and my eventual rdr2!au- it’s coming I swear!!!) but also I really felt like this was a fun read and exciting and it was my chance to explore a female Jaskier a little bit on the side before I stuck her in the main au. I love cowgirlskier so fucking much guys 🥺

3. Go Get Your Mage aka Yennefer goes to Blaviken instead

I love women what can I say? this was a prompt fic which i fell in love with and wrote in like, a franticly inspired half hour on my phone, but I still think it’s amazing and deserves more love than it got on ao3 when I posted it, so I will shamelessly throw this at any conversation about the Yennfri rarepair. They’re fucking delightful! (also,,, pssst, accepting more prompts if anyone also thinks the same)

4. 5 + 1 Jaskier Mourns aka five time Jaskier thought Geralt was dead

Alright, I’m cheating a bit here, since this one isn’t posted yet. It’s so close though, so honestly keep an eye out, because it’s liable to be up within the month here. the idea for this came out of a conversation about bottled appetites in the w!j server and how Jaskier’s mourning scene was a little strange on the face of it. So thus was born the idea for five times Jaskier thought Geralt was dead, and one time Geralt thought Jaskier was dead. I’ve written 20k of it already and it’s only been a thing for like... a week lol. 

I love it so much though and i’m really proud of it already so like, I will be insufferable about once its posted haha

Transitions are Hard

So among other things, I have an actual masters in life transitions and adult development, and one of the biggest things I took away from that, is that transitions are *hard.* Even good transitions. Chosen transitions. Highly anticipated and desired transitions.

The thing that I have come to understand more and more these days is... it’s all transitions. Nothing highlights this more than parenting, for me at least, because every time I think “ahhh FUCKING NAILED IT I AM SO GREAT AT THIS PARENTING THING” they go and grow and change and develop and I’m left there going wtf just happened??

I’m in the middle of some really big transitions. I left my career of 25+ years as a hands-on (well, not really actually because that’s unethical) direct service provider to explore options. I’ve been taking classes and the direction I thought I was going, I’m still going, just not by way of this local university program (because I’m not thrilled with the department). So I’m going to explore on-line learning. 

My kids are growing - over the next year, I’m supporting my oldest in college applications (a thing I thought I wasn’t going to start until NEXT fall but oh well), supporting him getting his driver’s license. Supporting the younger two in their schooling and dance. Supporting my partner as he supports his mother while his father fades away from Alzheimer’s. Support my mom as she continues to grow into her post-dad life. Support my sister in her life. Everyone is still growing and changing, and it’s some good and some terrible but mostly.

It’s just kind of hard.

So as we hit the transition into the new year, the new decade, I’m thinking a LOT (as always, still, again) about where I want to direct my time and energy. And mainly, in addition to my family obligations, pondering about jobs and stuff, I want to do the following:

Focus on my friendships - both online and face to face.

Focus on continuing to learn about my new chosen field in anticipation of getting back into the workforce.

Focus on writing.

That last one feels so important. I miss it, so much. I’m really really not sure what to do with all my Larry WIPs - my relationship with the fandom and my own participation has shifted radically. I’ve got some big Drarry (some fun and one TERRIBLE PAINFUL STORY OF PAIN). I’ve even got some Stucky in the WIP folder. I want to write. I want to get back to that. I barely wrote at all this year. 

Next year, I intend to change that.

And it’s gonna be hard.

Just so everybody knows I’m currently writing a fic where Billy Hargrove goes pretty much off the grid wildman and raises chickens in the woods of Hawkins. I’m on chapter five. If I get to chapter six I’m posting the first chapter.

Would you ever write about the kids seeing Cybertron alive and inhabited post-war and not see it as a band wasteland?

I would! The children deserve to see the world they almost lost their own to. I imagine that it would be a once in a lifetime visit, most likely toward the ends of the kids lives. The team could show them all they helped to restore, and that I think would be the greatest gift for them.

I want them to see the fruits of their labor and to know that all the fighting had reason.
