Hey!! Just popping in to say I have just read the first chapter of your fic and I am #intrigued. Excited to see the rest!!
I do have a question tho. If I understand well, wish children are only products of romantic love. Yet Jannik doesn't seem to jump to that conclusion. Is it just a case of extreme repression and denial, or is there something we're missing? (I assume the former)
Hi! Thanks for reading! ^_^. I'm glad you are intrigued, I hope you enjoy what I have planned ahead! SO, thank you for the interesting question, you've opened quite a bag of worms here. Heres a bit of a long winded answer, addressing the magic of wish children in my fic that I personally work off of first and then Jannik's reaction second.
You'd be right to understand that in most fic wish children are only products of romantic love. In the case of Jannik and Carlos in my fic, Sofia and Frida are a product of romantic love, but in my universe that is not necessarily always the case. It's not like it HAS to be that.
Bottom line is that they are a product of love (however that term is defined) and it can be platonic.
The only true necessity to wish children being granted by the universe's magic is that there be a) love, and b) a sincere, deep seated wish for children on both ends.
It is a wish to become a unit and so be forever entangled with them, and thereby see the traits (character and physical) that you most love/are most recognisable yada yada... in the other(s) manifested into reality.
Now for Jannik's reaction! You assumption is correct, because that is what I meant to make you assume, but I'd like to explain a little bit here.
I think the key here is that Jannik, on screen, does not jump to any conclusion at all about the other surname on the birth certificates except that it is something he needs to cope with. By drinking tequila at ten in the morning. Something to push aside.
The thing with Janni is that he does not give things a lot of names.
He denies them explicit acknowledgement, and his conclusions are in the vein of tennis is about love and everything else is about tennis.
The fact that romantic love exists, for carlos, in his heart, is something he intrinsically knows and therefore continues to ignore and push aside in favour of Action Action Action all the time.
Like, since you will be reading along, this is something you will see semi frequently as this is centred mainly on his pov with others scattered throughout.
I hope you see where he doesn't jump to conclusions and like today, continue finding them in the rest of the text.
Anyways, that was a little self indulgent of me to ramble in, I hope it made sense, thanks for the ask and for reading! I hope you have a wonderful day.
