hello, I'm Atlas, and this sideblog is my containment area for fanaticism of my hockey obsession, motorsports and sports overall. Got reeled into hockey enough to make this blog and i'm in real deep.

Ranges from the standard fare to analytical essays and crack. RPF forever.

Anyways, the narratives haunt me, and I love all of it. History and narrativws are My Jam, but so is The Sport.

Digging my teeth into hockey: nhl, pwhl and other hockey leagues/tourneys also. Baseball,f1,nascar,tennis and nfl are the other notable features.

i feel for knight, honestly, and all the older players. she's 36. at that point i think you've earned some agency over where you play out the end of your career. this expansion is just terribly timed for that "pioneer" class to have that agency. i guess it's a necessary evil, but :((

She pushed through a bad foot injury so that she could play in the inaugural season because she knew her name would be a big draw. I think she’s earned a bit of selfishness, and I think there’s a deeper conversation to be had (not at 1am) about how Knight (and Kendall, who’s still a free agent) doesn’t really have a “hometown team” where she can settle down, and how that’s affected her approach to the end of her career. If Utah got a team, I bet that would have been her first choice so she could be closer to Britt. Instead, she has to just find where she’ll be the most comfortable. In that regard, Detroit is a much easier sell than Vegas, which still doesn’t have a head coach.

I think a lot of the outrage also comes from people who got into sports recently and don’t understand how important player agency has been to labor relations as a whole. I would encourage everyone who says something along the lines of, “this team picked you, so shut up and deal with it” to read about Curt Flood and why free agency is only a recent victory for labor.

I’m gonna be so fr rn, yall gotta stop acting like women’s sports only contributions/offerings are 1) that most of the athletes are queer 2) some sort of “morally pure” version of the sport. you don’t realize that you’re doing it but you’re de-valuing them to a point of queerness + morality meter. which the latter is just insane when there are POS’ amongst women’s sports
