hey there!! I think for me—unless I’m absolutely exhausted—it’s the only way to force myself to sleep. I have a very hyperactive brain (I’ve actually been looking into getting tested for adhd soon because I have things I’ve been coping with since childhood that are symptoms of it, but my parents nor I ever looked into getting a diagnosis—which may or may not be a reason for the sleep thing, but I digress) and even as a little kid I never took naps, and growing up it would take me hours to fall asleep every night because I’d lay there staring at the wall because I couldn’t concentrate on sleep. So as I got older, I learned that imagining actually helped my brain settle. I imagine things like love stories, aus for my shows/books; I let my brain lead me somewhere and follow along so that I can pull at the remains of an old dream that will pull me back in (I hope at least). Sometimes I just listen to music for a while because that calms my brain. So yeah, for me my daydreaming before sleep has a lot to do with being able to “concentrate” on sleep (although the concentrating on the daydreams is subconscious, because it’s just something I Do most of the time), although there are 100% likely lots of reasons others do it, like thinking about the things they’re looking forward to, planning a fanfic in their head they’ve been meaning to write, etc. it’s a very interesting question!! I don’t think there’s anything weird with you not having/needing to do that. I think it just means your brain can fall asleep easier! But if you feel compelled, try to daydream! Let your brain wander from reality into daydreams and see where it takes you.
