the night was drawn out long, sky ablaze with such bright stars ! it was a sight to behold, such a wonderful sight. those who happened to set their gaze on the night sky were to be awarded with a beauty. the stars that streaked the sky happened to burn brightly on the rather cold night, seemingly blinking in and out of sight. this would be the perfect night for someone to break out a telescope, craning their neck to even catch a glimpse of it all. it was, with no doubt in mind, a wonderful night for stargazing.
it must have been the reason ryou had trekked out such a long ways, on such a freezing night( no matter, he had failed to invite any of his friends along with him – this was always a double - edged sword. it saved bakura from having to put on the patience of a saint while they talked, only there to converse with ryou from time to time. on the other hand, the millennium puzzle seemed even farther now. farther from it’s proper grasp ! ) having trekked out this way was a feat in and of itself, but for him to be able to put up with bakura’s murmurs and pressure was another altogether. bakura stayed in the ring for the most part, only coming out to weigh down on his host.
sweet talk fell out of his mouth, almost casually. tone would soften until given a reason not to – or a reason to bite his tongue. ❛ we should go home, landlord. if you turn around right now, i can pay my rent. i’m sure i could make you a deck that could even rival yugi’s. ❜ that name tasted sour in his mouth, but bakura spit it out nonetheless, just to appease his host. truth be told, bakura wasn’t too fond of their little trip. melting away into the darkness of the forest was one thing, but going out of their way for stars ? it seemed far fetched and ridiculous. yet, his request was only met with a simple “no. this is something i want to do.” from ryou. pointless to try again, he’d test the waters later.
however, that time never came for they arrived before bakura could get another word out. they were there, underneath an open sky. bakura would never admit it outright, but the sky was particularly gleaming on this night. it truly illuminated the sky & their surroundings, a single nightlight for all to sleep well under. his host seemed to rather enjoy being out there, seeing that he was rather calm & relaxed now. ❛ i don’t get why you like it out here so much. ❜ there was no response just yet, ryou was far too mesmerized by the sight.
The Spirit was tiresome. The voice in his head is always there, always present. And even when he’s silent, Ryou knows better than to think he’s alone. As long as the Ring hangs around his neck, he’s never alone. ( Hadn’t he wished for that once before? )
There was a moment before he left home where he considered taking the Ring off, tucking it away in his desk, and taking one night for himself. Of course he didn’t. The Spirit’s anger wasn’t something he was ready to invoke. Not when they almost had come to some sort of peace between them. So he just had to settle on ignoring the whispers and coaxes to turn back.
There was a park Ryou knew, a little distant, a little secluded, but one where no one ( other than the obvious ) would bother him this time of night. It’d been awhile since he’d come out this way, but it was like nothing had changed. The city seemed to fall away the deeper into the park he went. Ryou stopped for a moment to grab his bearings and veered left, coming across the swings just as he hoped. Smiling softly to himself, he took a seat and started to swing gently back and forth, eyes tilted up towards the stars.
❛ i don’t get why you like it out here so much. ❜
Ryou stopped swinging, but didn’t take his eyes off the stars. “ It’s peaceful, ” is what he finally says. And he wonders if the Spirit even knows the word.
