She recoiled in surprise at the redhead’s words. She had the nerve to talk back to—
It was then that she saw the tears, the absolutely desperate expression on the other’s face. It was then that she saw a bit of herself in the crimson eyes of the girl kneeling in front of her fallen teammate. It was then, that she finally realized the true extent to her panic.
The hard lines on her brow softened as the Haruno released her grip on Karin’s shoulder. In some strange, twisted way, she genuinely felt for her. Her own heart clenched in an effort to hold back tears, long-strengthened walls tumbling down around her once again.
"I… I can try to save him. I won’t let him go. I promise."
If she was speaking to Karin or to herself, she didn’t know. But all she did know, was that she had just made this girl a promise. And Sakura Haruno never broke promises.
