d ONT TEMPT ME
TEMPTS YOU FIERCELY
can you give a meta on the development of his mental state over time? Has it progressed? regressed? Even if anything about it is explained in canon, I'd like to hear your take on his mental state.
send me a topic to write a meta about my muse on // accepting
this is going to be very rambly since trying to wrap my head around a proper answer has been difficult, but i’ll try my best.
hisoka is obviously insane. doing some research i’ve tried to term what exactly he is and while i want to explore this further causing me to possibly change my answer in the future here is what i have. a small list traits of psycopath is: uncaring, shallow emotions, irresponsibility, insincere speech, narrowing of attention, selfishness, inability to plan for the future, and violence.
so. most of these fit hisoka rather well with his brutality, lack of empathy, lack of attachment and deciet being more common to his person than honesty. there are two that sort of don’t–narrowing of attention and inability to plan. in the heat of battle except in those times when his bloodthirst reaches an all time high (very rare) hisoka is always planning, meticulously. he’s a genius for it and is always observing, but aside from that he fits the bill pretty well.
violence? he’s a murderer. the earliest one seen in canon was his early teens and it looked like he was pretty comfortable with it a that point. shallow emotions, he doesn’t care for anyone or anything but himself and the fights he loves to be in. anything that can pass as caring for another person is usually a means to benefitting himself if you look close enough. i’m not going to go into every trait right now, but they’re there.
as for the development of it? well in canon all we have of his past is a one-shot, a small glimpse into his life as a younger hisoka. he’s exactly the same as he is in the present–brutal, cunning, selfish. i believe for most of his life he has been at this mentality of doing what he wants and getting what he wants through whatever means he deems necessary. the way i headcanon his backstory he was raised by abusive, neglectful parents in a society that left children in the dust. he was never taught to care in the first place which would have been damaging enough on a neurotypical child. everything that’s happened since then has just reinforced this mentality.
it’s frightening. since even as his insanity and brutality have reached new heights his intellect has hardly ever shown to be compromised by it. he can still plot out outcomes of a battle, assess an individual’s potential and constantly improve himself as he sees fit. even after near hysteric episodes of violence he has always comeback to his sense and able to function on his typical level.
