Stiles learns about runes, but he takes it too far. Derek is saves Stiles from an attack from an unknown being, neither of them know whether it was supernatural or normal. Everyones concern for Stiles increases, despite Stiles' protestations. He doesn't need to be babied, he can look after himself. But, maybe, along the way, Stiles learns to accept that some people, (Derek) are not going to sit by and idly watch him destroy himself.
Derek has lost too much, he isn't going to lose Stiles as well.
