“The first of the original characters to join the Nendoroid Doll series!”
I’m so sick of the commenters on Good Smile’s Facebook, just calling these new Nendoroid Doll figures ugly or just dismissing them as rip off of Cu-Poche. Hey, I don’t like their proportions either, but if you’d spend any time on Tumblr with figure photography communities, you’d see a definite market for this. So many Nendoroid collectors are putting Nendo heads on Obitsu bodies, and they have been for a long while now. All they want is to be able to sew their own clothes for their Nendoroids and pose them a little more. Why should Volks take away Good Smile’s Nendoroid collectors? Do casual figure collectors even know how to get a hold of Volks ball-joint dolls? I’ve been to Volks USA, attended BJD collectors panels, and I still am too intimidated to buy BJDs off of forums, because I still feel so unfamiliar with it all, and scared off by the even HIGHER price range. I think Nendoroid Dolls are really convenient for newer figure collectors who don’t even know what BJDs are. How are they supposed to get Obitsu bodies? Well, isn’t it convenient that Good Smile is now giving them a comparable option. And for the people complaining that it’s just a clone of Cu-poches: Nendoroid Dolls are 4cm taller. And if you work in miniatures, or have made figure accessories before, you know that makes a big difference. But in either case---So what? Cu-poche was created to compete with Nendoroids. Same with Bandai Tamashii Nations’s Chibi-Arts line. There’s room for ALL the chibis! Though personally, not only is the Nendoroid line full of more character options, but I prefer their sculpts, and their parts seem a little more interchangeable (even with just the head options). And if people are willing to put Nendoroid heads onto Obitsu bodies, then you know customizability is important to them. So quit dumping on other people’s niche.
As for me, I’ll keep collecting Nendoroid More with my Nendoroids. But you Nendoroid Doll fans should have fun, without other Nendoroid collectors making us all look like elitists just waiting to rail against other people’s preferences.
