To help ease the tension on the brittle copper filament I made this simple hub for my wall mounted spool holder.
More fun with the copper filament today. Printing much more consistently now. A few minor issues still exist. The material seems brittle compared to normal filaments. This leads to filament snapping when there is tension between the spool and extruder inlet. I have a few ideas for fixing this problem with my setup by reducing the tension. Hubs, Bearings, ect. The other issue is that for me this material can stick to the print bed a little too much. This makes it easy to break a print taking it off the bed. Using a flexible print bed, freezer, ect helps. However the best solution seems to be finding the perfect amount to lift the nozzle for the first layer and making sure the nozzle is perfectly level to the printbed. Overall I like the stuff. I havent tried firing any yet because I do not a Kiln. However a coworker is going to try to fire some of my test prints.
Starting to make some progress working with the Virtual Foundry "Filamet" copper filament. This test print was 26 grams.
