Ricoh 500G Review
Ricoh 500G is a compact rangefinder film camera. It is the first rangefinder I have owned. I have used it a few times with good results. With a 40mm f/2.8 lens, it is great for general shooting and especially street. The shutter with its leaf blades are quiet and discreet. Winding is easy and it fits in your hand quite comfortably. Focusing is easy with a bright finder and good patch. Although without parallax correction, you can always guesstimate with the scale. The exposure meter is a needle type and easy to use. Using LR44 batteries which has a higher voltage than previously used in the camera might affect the exposure meter. Its good to have at least some adjustments like setting up the ISO different from the film speed of the roll or compensating the shutter or aperture. If the meter is not working you can still use it in manual mode unlike other battery dependent cameras. A downside of the camera is the foam/padding that prevent light leaks. Its rare to purchase one that has an intact foam. I replaced mine quite haphazardly and some leaks show in my photos. Overall, this camera is a great rangefinder, smooth winding, compact and quiet.

We are kameratiks. We believe in film. With the advent of the digital age, using film cameras have taken a back seat. We believe that in continuing support of buying and selling film gear, we are able to contribute in not only sharing our passion but also let others have the enjoyment of letting go of their digital gear and shoot film.
