Antichrist (2009) - Lars von Trier
Faced the challenge of watching Antichrist, finally, and fortunately I was able to brave through it unscathed and still come up with a handful of quotable quotes.
"And I understood that everything that used to be beautiful about Eden was perhaps hideous. Now I could hear what I couldn't hear before - the cry of all the things that are to die."
"It's all very touching if it was a children's book. Acorns don't cry, you know that as well as I do. That's what fear is. Your thoughts distort reality." -- Chapter 2: Chaos Reigns
"Women do not control their own bodies, nature does."
--Chapter 3: The Despair
This one sort of relates to von Trier's another part of the trilogy (Nymphomaniac) and the despair that is bestowed upon women by Nature.
"When the three Beggars arrive, someone must die. The Crying woman is a scheming woman. False in legs, false in thighs, false in breasts, teeth, hair and eyes." -- Chapter 4: The Three Beggars
Yes, don't trust a crying woman, especially if she looks like Charlotte Gainsbourg; she might drill a hole through your leg and lock you up. This one has a nice visualization, but the credits for the words go to Shakespeare.
Antichrist explored the evil that is in women (this is a very sensitive topic and in no way do I agree with it, but as it is what the movie seemed to portray, it must be said) as a whole or I think Antichrist actually refers to the female character herself, by Charlotte Gainsbourg: mentally-ill, trapped in fear and in grief. She was ensnared in the belief that she is evil, and women are evil, but was she really grieving given the fact that she was aware of her wrong doings ? This is yet another art film to watch over and over again, but with proper precautions.
