Lost in Translation: a poetic guide to break one's heart
I've watched this film a couple of times but this hasn't really strucked me until now. This was the brainchild of Sofia Coppola when she was trying to figure out her marriage with Spike Jonze — to which Jonze responded with the film "Her" after 10 years.
I always thought this was about two people having a hard time coping with loneliness and just finding that random person to share it with. Re-watching it now & have to paused for a bit to write this. My heart hurts. This hurts a lot. This isn't a film you want to watch at 2AM because damn, the tears are for sure coming out.
It made me realized a lot of things. That this film simply ventures one of the saddest tragedies in life: finding your soulmate at the wrong place & the wrong time. Much more painful to watch is that you both know you can't have each other. You just can't and that some things aren't made to work out.
And if by living means you slowly understand what life is all about then finding the right person at the wrong circumstances just doesn't make any sense — in short, Lost in Translation.
