Efficient Purification of Sea Water
Can you imagine being out at sea surrounded by insane amounts of sea water, but not able to drink any of it? Marco Antonio Babra Sánchez decided to create a solution to this in creating a device that purifies sea water efficiently for use in case of an emergency!
His answer to this solution's name is Bermuda. It's a compact, pop-up device that produces from 2.1 and 4.2 litres of purified water per day, which is pretty impressive and could be important in saving a life. Barba Sánchez looked at existing systems and what their flaws were and realized that by combining different types of methods of the water purification process into one solitary device the process could be a lot more efficient.
Bermuda mostly uses solar distillation to separate the water and salt, then the water is fed through a filtration system to remove any bacteria. A vacuum is used to reduce the boiling point of the sea water, therefore reducing the amount of energy needed during this purification process. We are certainly not surprised why Marco won a James Dyson award for Bermuda!
