An Info Announcement for anyone interested/following me
I've really been finding gifmaking unexpectedly soothing at a time when I've lost touch with my creativity - I've not picked up a pencil or a brush in too long, and for a year now I've been unable to write. I feel I have lost both my confidence and my inspiration and it has been very hard, because these have been times when I needed both the solace and the escapism it provided me. I don't know when I'll be able to return to my writing and art, much less when I'll be ready to share them again. Through making gifs I finally found a small way to be creative doing something that demands attention and repetition, which is what I'm craving to soothe myself right now. And through that I've rediscovered my love for movies which is a hobby I had neglected recently.
Turns out you notice many things when gifing scenes, and appreciate cinematography and visual narrative, even dialogue, much more. It's been a new and exciting way to engage with cinema in a transformative way. So I'm taking this opportunity to produce some gifsets of a few of the movies I love and which I've not seen much material circulating online about, in the hopes that
1. someone looking for it like I used to do will find it and be merry,
2. I can engage in a little personal commentary/criticism through the visual without the need for long essays,
3. people will get to know about less well-known films and might find something they like there, and
4. at last I can contribute something a little more substantial to a space and, hopefully, people who have made me very happy with their own work in the past and have been so cool all this time.
I will take advantage of the recent renewed interest in movie-sharing to gif some movies I love very much (my main interests are nicely-costumed and atmosphere'd historicals, old-timey European cinema(eg. Vláčil, Visconti and Żuławski, etc)and films with preternaturally attractive cinematography and/or protagonists). Many of them is rare to find rare to find gifs online if, and since I'm doing this for fun, though too broad in my movie tastes, I'll start from my favourite movies and I'll go from there, depending on my mood. I might do some Greek movies eventually too - and if anyone has any movie suggestions to make, I'm always game to look them up.
That being said, I'll keep posting about Wh40k, and I intend to gif a lot more of TTS since I'm rewatching it right now (have I become the TTS gifset blog yet in vernacular 😂) and I might even try doing Hunter: The Parenting as I got into it and it's amazing too and a worthy spiritual companion to TTS. And I do intend to post more quotes and passages from my favourite books, especially since I'm on a scifi/fantasy kick recently (let's not forget the Tanith Lee crusade!)
I can't guarantee strict adherence to any sort of rules, since this is an uncertain period for me and I'm going through some personal stuff; this is just to inform people what they're in for with this blog, in case it's not to their tastes or, conversely,in case it is.
You can find my gifs under the tags my gifsets and my gifs.
My movie gifsets in particular will be tagged as my edits, movieedits and filmedits.
The TTS ones are under the #if the emperor had a text to speech device and under all related Warhammer 40k tags.
Book-related stuff is under quotes and books, as well as under author names or genres.
Thank you very much for the support all this time. Hope you enjoy!
