"Ship In A Bottle"

I found this song recently: "Ship In A Bottle" by Fin Argus, and I couldn't stop thinking about Odysseus and Polites.

Imagine instead of seeing Penelope during "Suffering", Odysseus sees Polites drowning in the waters below. He reacts out of instinct and tries to jump in, disregarding the fact that he knows that Polites has been dead a long time and that it's all a siren allusion to lure him to his death. Eurylochus has to grab Odysseus before he can throw himself over the railing to save his best friend.

The song would be from Siren Polite's point-of-view and he would be trying to guilt trip Odysseus into jumping in to save him.

"Oh, captain, let's make a deal where we both say the things that we both really feel," he'd whisper. "I feel scared and I'm starting to sink, and I'll only sink deeper and deeper I think."

The siren will fake drown to really push Odysseus over the edge, but Odysseus is so grief-stricken that he can't really register that Polites is alternating between swimming and drowning.

If the image of Polites isn't enough to drive Odysseus insane, the repetition of "Captain" will.

AHAAHAHHAHA SO. This is an album CD case cover for the music artist Fin Argus… I should have started so much earlier.

I’m disastrously upset about it. My professor said it was “unpolished”… He’s not wrong if I’m mature about it honestly. But WHO HAS TIME TO BE MATURE. I’m just so tired of looking at it.

My critique for my project went great btw! /s
