Seeing someone say Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will end at Cosmo Canyon/Nibelheim makes me insane

ig i find utena/anthy strange as a ship, bc it’s only at the end that it’s actually viable? utena finally stops looking at anthy through the lens of a damsel needed to be saved, and finally wants to see anthy as a person?
i understand it’s toxic yuri but then in that sense doesn’t mean a/u is pretty much the same as anthy being with any of the boys, since she reflects what’s ideal to them and allows them to (mis)treat her as they please, and utena isn’t better than any of the boys until the final episode
and i kinda wish that journey was interesting and shippable to me all the same? to see anthy/utena get to that point of truly being able to be together and want that for them? but it also… isn’t.
like ig ffvi is similar but also incredibly not with locke/celes. both have to overcome their deepest insecurities so they can properly be together in the end, and a good portion of the story is them individually kinda resolving their miscommunication and issues, but it took me a looong time for me to go “oh i love them actually!” rather than “well locke kept his dead gf in a basement and celes saw the aftermath and she’s a consolation prize” and musing how much of locke’s saving complex means genuine attraction rather than guilt?
idk. ships where it’s only really possible to be together at the end. i kinda want more examples to study and think about tbh.
ugh i think i worded this terribly but it’s also hard to explain, imo?
i will always be mad on vaan and penelo’s behalf. don’t fucking relegate them to the sidelines and making them beyond irrelevant!!! the first four hours i cared about them and then they basically do nothing after balthier and fran hijack the game???? infuriating!!!
THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN MAD AT GABRANTH FOR MURDERING REKS NOT JUST HAVE IT BE A BASCH ONLY EVENT
moonflow, moonflow, i love you so!!! i love how tranquil it is, the goofy shoopuf. but then god, macalania is sooooo pretty, both the forest and the temple, bright and shiny with ice. and yet it’s soooo different to the starkness of gagazet, the upward facing of death, the mountain unflinching and unkind. but then kilika is sooooo pretty great to think about as “this could have been besaid”, sleepy little safe haven island that tidus immediately cheered up to because of the reassurance of blitzball. but it got attacked by sin, and so the tragedy of it overshadows everything. and yet there’s the gloomy intensity of guadosalam, the dim lights and underground feel of it. or the calm lands, where it’s a vastness of space and green, yes, there are cracks in the earth, but it feels like breathing for the first time, in so many ways, the path no longer a straight line now that the party has become heretics, excommunicated by the beautiful but corrupt bevelle, using machina that it forsakes. it’s loneliness and empty prisons of via purifico, and there is just shame and solitude to keep you company. and yet, saying that, how can i not love luca? for the hustle and bustle, for silly blitzball competitions that so many people want to protect. a real city centre!! or the melancholy of zanarkand, the presumed journeys end, a city in ruins where yunalesca waits? sending fiends after the summoners to see how strong they are, if they are willing to sacrifice themselves for the final battle.
even if you ignore the atmospheric music, it’s just… such a breathtaking world, the range of it all. yuna looked back to memorize the details that she could, when she believed it was the last time she was going to see it, but even replaying the game, knowing it’s not going to go the way she thinks, ah, it’s just. the care in this world building, how it contrasts and feels distinct… how can i pick just one location as my favourite??
sett: i’ll stay at [nina’s] side even if it makes the world my enemy.
that’s my otp baby!!!
no, but it’s funny. i really do like the moment, sett’s declaration as a contrast to az. az who could not weigh nina as more important to the kingdom, that sett has abandoned bc nina is more important to him.
but like i think of ffviii, and squall says something similar about rinoa and i just… felt nothing for him, i don’t like the ship tbh!! i just couldn’t get into it!!
it’s just… idk ship patterns and investments.
