I ended up going with the background elements unfocused. Somehow the foreground element (the lamp) seemed more distracting when it was unfocused. So I’ve made an edit to this post. Apparently, the texture in the background seems distracting? Personally I like it, it adds character and I like the aesthetic. However I can see the point that it might be distracting. Thus I have lessen the effect in the bottom picture.

The process and the final frame(s)! In the bottom images (left) is the final frame with foreground and background elements blurred for focus effects. In the right image, neither is blurred. Not sure what one to go with at this point.
