After 57 days, the rains have returned. I am so excited to sleep under a blanket again.
Three years ago, I think, I gave today’s featured log to my sister-in-law and it has succeeded beyond anything I have tried to foster. It has bracket fungus growing perpendicular to the ground, leftover from its days as a tree and parallel to the ground representing its current position. It has several kinds of lichen including that in the second to last photo that looks like a Lobaria pulmonaria but I don’t see how it can be given that the log is in her backyard nowhere near anywhere it grows. and now it appears to be becoming consumed by the brown powdery stuff I think is a slime mold. This log is decomposing central!
Lichen on!
