Maisie Cousins (1992)

I’ve met Cousins work last year, when I was helping out at the Hundred Heroines exhibition at Chelsea  - her book RUBBISH, DIPPING SAUCE, GRASS PEONIE BUM is a collection of 3 projects. Not joking, I was mesmerized by the unapologetic and striking images. The control of flash, choice of subject and the close up view remind me of Nobuyoshi Araki’s - The Banquet (https://www.shashasha.co/en/book/the-banquet). Colours and textures are intertwining in a sleeky dance, which is strangely inviting and catches the eye, attracts the viewer for an even closer scrutinization.

Inspired by this viceral style, I wanted to develop my project evoking this strong use of flash and close up angle, by buying a lot of sext toys with all shapes, sizes using different liquids and whatever I’d find in the kitchen, different paper materials and foils to enhance the vibrance of the colours of the object...but these turns are not returnable for hygienic reasons so I guess I need to figure out something else.

High Fidelity:

After I have designed the low fidelity design all my icons and illustrations I started to work on the high fidelity design. I have designed the onboarding and registration and the home screen and the sections within the home screen. I have chosen the colour pallete that I designed my brand with for this app of purples, lilacs and pink. I think this works very well I like how the pastel colours work with the bold purple for detail. As I have discussed before purple represents epilepsy and this is the main reason behind the colour palette.  

I have used Adobe XD to design the screens and the prototype. I am happy with the progress of the design and with the style of the app. I did not want to make the app design to look like a typical health and wellness app. I wanted for this to feel like a safe space for the user.

I have designed some illustrations that I want to use throughout some screens for Aura. The top illustration is for the seizure screen with the timer. because the screen will only have the timer and a start and stop button to keep it very simple I wanted to add something else that would not be distracting as another button but just a visual addition. The next heart illustration will be for the registration process as nearly there illustration. There will be text added to that. I wanted there to be something comforting for the user to know that they are almost done with the registration process. The bottom brain illustration is going to be a welcome back illustration for the log in screen. Again there will be text added to the design. I have taken the colour scheme from the icon designs with some more shades of purple. I think this will work very well with the design concept of Aura.

App Icons:

Here I have started the process of designing the icons I will use in the Aura app. Starting with the basic outlines of all the icons I will be using throughout designing the app. The main navigation with the home, profile, community and settings icons. The rest will be used for different sections in the app; seizure revords, notes, symptoms, triggers, medicine, emergency calls, email the doctor. I decided to design an icon for each symptom and trigger choice which are; Insomnia, dizzy, weak, migrane, alcohol, flashy lights, anxiety, tired, headache, and stressed. I chose this dark and light purple colourscheme to fit with the Aura brand and I think that the lilac works very well with the darker purple. 

I am happy with these designs. They are simple and minimalistic but I think that work well to represent everything they need to for the user.

Low-Fidelity:

After wireframing in my sketchbook and drawing user flows and mindmapss I have moved on to low fidelity wireframes using Adobe XD. I stil wanted to keep them very simple but I wanted there to be a clear idea of the layout and information that would be in the final design. The screens that I have designed for low fidelity I think are the most important. I wet with the registration and sign in process, home screen and stages of that screen, user profile and the stages of that and also the community screen. I think that these are the main screens that will be sed. I am sure there will be more when develping the final design but I think this is a good starting point. 

I have decided to do a mini prototype for the low fidelity design to get the feel how the process will work. and to make it easier to understand and have a base when designing a high fidelity prototype. Using Adobe XD I have designed this and below you will find the link to the prototype.
